Anyone know my cultivar?

Hi all,

Found this plant while measuring a client's yard (it belongs to her neighbor). At first I thought it was 'Helene' but the petals seem much larger than on my 'Helene'. I'm not familiar with this one. Thanks for looking!

Hey Karen!
There photo looks quite similar to 'Helene'. I looked at some photos at different sites and haven't seen any that match your photo. There are not many single whites with red centers. Here is the description for 'Helene'
Large showy flowers, heavily ruffled with red center that radiate along the veins from the center toward midpetal

Does this description match what you saw?

Hi Ray!

It does, but I don't think mine has that odd little extra white "appendix" by the stamen. Mine isn't blooming now because it was badly stressed this summer and about 3 weeks ago I planted it into the ground (was in a 1/2 wine barrel). I think I'll go give it a tiny bit of bloom food and see if the flowers match the photos above. I don't remember that little white thingy though and the flowers above seem to have larger (wider) petals. Perhaps mine has been so stressed from being in that stupid barrel for so long that the flowers weren't "all they could be"!!! Maybe the plants above are 'Helene'.

Boy does that lady do something right or what? You should have seen those bushes.....incredible!

I have this plant and I bought it as a Rose of Sharon Helene.

this is a newer variety, with colour flushing through the petals, which it doesn't look like.

It is a largish shrub, and they are slow growing , so I would be looking at older varieties..

Perhaps it is 'Helene' then. I just don't remember my 'Helene' having that extra "something" hanging down next to the stamen like this one did. The petals seemed more ruffled than my 'Helene' too. I did of course steal some seed and since the plants were so close together (with no other ROS nearby)hopefully the seed will come true! thanks for the input everyone!
