droopy after digging and potting

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

I have been digging up my brugs to pot up for the winter, this is Amber Rose x Butterfly (A.Helms), it is pretty droopy and I am wondering if there are any suggestions on helping it along???? I dug out many brugs, there were only 2 that are drooping on me, this one and M&H, any suggestions appreciated, I am going to hit them with messenger this morning before work to see if they perk up for me.

AR x Butterfly might be droopy but she sure is showing alot of beautiful color!

Thanks for any suggestions!

Laurrie, do you know how much of the root ball you lost when you dug it up? The best thing to do is to cut off the same amount of foliage. For example, if you think you lost about 1/3 of the rootball, cut off about 1/3 of the leaves, 1/2 the rootball then 1/2 the leaves. Starting with the largest leaves at the bottom working up.

I am sure you watered the plant in, when you potted. Don't water again until it gets pretty dry. This will help you from having a root rot poblem. But you can mist the leaves to help keep the plant hydrated.

Hope this helps.

Wow Laurie. I sure like that one of Ada's. What a shape, it looks like. I also like it for it is a cross I do not often see.

You need a certain amount of rootball to suppport the canopy. It can also be in big shock. You are going to lose all those big leaves anyway, so I would just take them off so the plant is not spending energy trying to save them. And then I would do what David said and trim the canopy above the Y. Make sure it is in a cool place and in all shade.

And most important, as David said, do NOT overwater. I think when we see a drooping plant we want to give it water. But your problem is not that there is not enough water in the soil, but there are not enough roots to drink up the water.

I have had plant droop, and as long as you do not drown it, it sholdl come out of it. Take a nice cutting just in case. LOL. Lay the cutting down in water for a few housrs and it will perk up. If it is real rubberly, I stick it in a glass of water, then put glass and all in a damp plastic bag and close it up tight. I then put it in complete shade. It will rehydrate.

GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks David and Kell, I did remove part of the leaves all up and down the trunk, left some of the upper ones, i will remove those now too, I didn't lose any of the rootball :) I just think it was the biggest one and the stress is probably mostly my problem, I couldn't find my messenger, it ALWAYS perks up any cuttings I get in the mail in less than 20 minutes, I did find the sample of "mighty plant' and hit it with that this morning, I haven't watered it since I transplanted it yesterday, I drenched it really well and let sit outside in shade until all water runoff was done, then I brought inside. So I will keep my fingers crossed, and yes I have already taken some cuttings "just in case' I adore this plant, Ada has a beauty that is for certain, I wanted to leave the buds on that were getting ready to open just to see more of them and smell this one, I haven't heard yet if Ada heard back from the other trialers on this cross, but I hope it's a keeper!!! I know I will continue to grow it if I am permitted, I would hate to lose this one, it's simply gorgeous!!!

If I find my "messenger" I will hit the foliage tomorrow morning with that, but for now, I am gonna go chop off a little more of the canopy!

Thanks again
Laurrie

You know Lauire, I wonder if Messenger really works for mailed cuttings. I read it won't work if the plant is dehydrated. It may be just the water you put them in that perks them up. I wish I knew more about Messenger!!

I have been using it for awhile on the cuttings I get, I had some that were pretty "wicked" looking and they just didnt' want to perk up and stand up, so a few days later when I finally got my messenger in the mail, I hit them with it, and they perked up within 20 minutes, so that is why I think it worked :) I can't say 100% positive it is why they perked up, but I use it now on all my cuttings and haven't lost one since I started using it - so I will keep using it, maybe a waste but for my peace of mind I think it's working LOL

I just transplanted all my babies I had outside growing inground, into pots within last couple days, I will hit them all with my messenger as soon as I remember just where the devil I put it!!!!

Ok, I will try it on my not so perky ones. LOL. I hate to open a packet for just a few. I am almost out of it though. I wish it were cheaper!!

What is messenger? I have a droopy plant...I just repotted it. Tried very hard not to disturb the rootball. So I'm curious if "messenger" would help.

Laurrie, I hope she perks up for you. You've done such a good job of growing her this year. I'll have to dig mine up soon. I dread it. LOL

Oh Ada! I hate digging them up, I feel like a monster when I do that LOL

I was honored to grow this one out, It's a gorgeous cross!!

last night it dropped a few buds after I cut off more of the leaves and a bloom that should have opened, but the rest are hangin on there for dear life :)

LOL Laurie, are you outside in the middle of the night taking pics? That is what I do. What a striking pic!!!

Did Ada tattle on me?? Well looking at your pictures earlier I thought I must go out and search thru the brugs I have on my porch. I think I know generally where it is. I just hope it is labeled. I love this one.

tee hee, yep you better get out there and find this beauty! I think itf it's blooming you won't have any problem finding it, even when it first drops out before opening, it shows tons of color!

These are photos actually taken this morning in the house lol, I got a new camera and was soo eager to try it out, if you look closely you will probably see the goony mini blinds in background.
