My grandmother had a houseplant years ago (maybe a fern?) that would close when you touched it. I've never seen anything like it since. Does anyone know what it could have been? She isn't around anymore to ask.

I'll bet that's it. Thanks, Lilypon! Are they hard to deal with? I think my little daughters are old enough (maybe) to try a few houseplants now and I think these would be fun to start with. I've never done houseplants, so I have no idea what I'm getting myself into here. :-)

Another one I wondered about is this one: http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/76582/
Sunshine Mimosa, Powderpuff, Sensitive Plant (Mimosa strigillosa)
Marilyn I haven't grown them but my MIL had one. Hers', to me, looked more like the Mimosa (which PlantFiles shows as an outdoor plant). I don't think it was tricky but hopefully someone with more hands on experience will come along.
