I thought of Karyn when I saw this Valley Lemon. I know how she loves to push the zone and grow citrus in NY.

Is Valley Lemon the name of a variety? It looks like a Ponderosa Lemon.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Betty, it is a Ponderosa Lemon, they are just called Valley Lemons down here. People eat them like grapefruits.

HOW COOL!!!!
look at the size of that sucker
Do they really eat them like grapefruit or is that another crocagator story???

I gotta check on my fruits forming this year
I think I finally have a lemon on my vareigated lemon
I don't know why it blooms and drops the fruit......
I have Kumquats, regular and some on my teeny tiny variegated one,a few oranges, and a lime or 2,and I think I have some grapefruits too.
I know something is blooming too cause I smell the blooms when I walk by....

I think she thinks I would not tell the whole truth, that I might make up a tale tale. Hmmmmmm.....I think my reputation preceeds me(or I'm being framed, it happens a lot)
It's really true, they peel em and eat em. Some put salt on them, some put sugar on them, just like grapefruit.

I gotta try that
They have a really thick skin on them don't they?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Yes, the rind is thick like a grapefruit. They are not true lemons. I prefer the Meyer lemon for lemonade.I will go out and take a picture of it, it's loaded with fruit. My variegated lemon didn't make lemons this year, I let it get too dry and they all fell off when they were itty bitty.

If people eat them like grapefruit I would like to try one!! Never met a lemon I would WANT to eat like a grapefruit!! What are you feeding that tree to have them grow so big?? was my first question but I see they are SUPPOSED to be that large, eh? Now, tell me, how in the world does this lady in NY get citris fruit to grow there?? The season is far to short and too cool!! A greenhouse?? A huge investment in special grow lights?? hehehe Anyway, if she can do it, more power to her!! She needs one of these HUGE lemon trees!! hehehe Bonnie

I got one baseball size lemon off the Ponderosa Lemon you gave me Susie. I think I waited too long to harvest it tho. I love the blooms in the winter even thought they usually blast before setting fruit. The citurs fragrance in the middle of the winter is wonderful.

What? Susie tell a story that is not true? Or Susie being framed?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Never. Susie would die before she led anyone astray with a tall tale. Besides, I know of no one that would be so silly to believe one tall tale she told.

They do eat these in Texas, but mainly men give them to the ladies to make them pucker up for once you eat one you can't get unpuckered for about an hour. Tthen the men take advantage and kiss their puckered lips. Susie says it really works.

Of couse she does.....
ROTFLMAO

Down here they call the "Ponderosa" the Valley Lemon, in other areas the "Meyer" is called a Valley Lemon. Common names.......they're different in all areas.
I'd always seen the Meyer lemon sold as Valley Lemons, but not here in the valley!

Ok, ok!! Got any seedlings?? Wonder if anyone grows limes as big as this?? Calalily???
