I have numerous plants for pickup only. Some you may even have to dig yourself. I'm in Jonesboro, Arkansas, about an hour North of Memphis TN.
I have:
hostas
daylilies
dahlias
artemesias
liriope
maiden grass
chameleon plant
irises
mature Photinias (Red Tip shrubs)
Tulip Poplar tree
elephant ears
sedums
cannas
yuccas
Redbud trees
Amaryllis
walking irises (if I haven't killed them already)
houseplants
whatever else I run across--I'm always ripping something out to replace it with yet another daylily.
In exchange, I would like some Miracle Grow (or a generic) and some Preen (or a generic). I do not need anymore plants. I'm overloaded now.
These plants are great for a beginner. The hostas and daylilies have lost their tags so I couldn't tell you their names. Most of the plants are common, but still great plants, especially if your garden is empty. And if you see something you really want, I might share if I have plenty.
If you can make it to Jboro soon, please let me know. I need to clear some stuff out to make room for all the daylilies I've acquired this year.

HAVE; PLANTS FOR PICKUP ONLY
I'd love to take you up on that, but AR is a little too far a drive. Bummer because you actually have some trees, and ones I'd be interested in. I don't see many trades for trees here (not ready for perennials at our house yet), and for most trades I don't have any of the requested items to complete the trade.
Jerger
I hear ya Jerger, I will have to make that trip up there when gas goes down and see what I can bring home.... but until then I sit here and drool (Nancy when are you going to post pics of those great new gardens?)
Hey Mitch,
I posted pics of my New Orleans Terrace somewhere just the other day. Maybe on Garden Talk?
You know I'm only about 9 hrs from you. "only"? LOL If I had more time to dig, wrap, and pack, I'd send you a box, but I'm so overwhelmed right now. I'd just like to get rid of a bunch of plants at once in the most time effective way, and that's just to dig them and throw them in a trunk. I acquired about 200 more varieties of daylilies this year and I'm filling every spot in my gardens with them. Next year, when they bloom, it will be beautiful here!

Butterflychaser,
I was born at St Bernards Hospital back in 58. My Dad was teaching at Arkansas State.
My birth certificate says we lived at 211 N. Rogers.
Do you have any clue if this house still exists?
Karen
Hey Karen,
I don't know if that particular house is still there, but that part of Rogers is still residential. However, I don't think it will be for much longer. The university has greatly expanded, and they've widened Johnson Avenue to compensate. As a result, a lot ofthe homes right on Johnson Ave were bulldozed for the highway construction. Rogers crosses Johnson and is a fairly short street. It's just a matter of time before the entire area becomes commercial I think. It's been in the process for years.
I was born at St. B's too, way back in 64. How'd you end up in PR?
NancyAnn
NancyAnn,
If you are ever in that part of Jonesboro see if it still exists a as favor? A photo would be nice.....
Ahhh, Puerto Rico. Yes I live in Puerto Rico but I do not live on the island of PR. I live on a small island about 7 miles away called Vieques.
Basically we retired and left our home in Maryland and drove to California on the mission of trying to find a place we wanted to grow old at (although we are not that old, at least at 46 I am not feeble yet)
We drove I-10 along the south border and hit all of the areas that Katrina and Rita have hit hard then proceeded into Georgia and up highway 17 into Virginia. We bypassed Florida, too many people.
After 5 weeks and countless hotels we went home to discover the trip was somewhat disappointing. Although we made new friends, saw new places there was just no one community that stuck out.
We decided to join a group called Caretaker.org thinking we may caretake houses for short spells and get to learn a bit about the towns. One was for Vieques.
Sad to say that the position in Vieques had been filled but it gave me a chance to learn a bit about the island. The next day we were on a plane and 4 days later we had a deed in our hands.
The rest is history. We permanately moved to the island on St Patricks Day, 2004. Attached is what we started with.
Wow, what a journey! It actually sounds like fun. And the place you chose is beautiful. It was meant to be. Got any current pics of the place now, with landscaping? I bet you can grow anything, especially the most exotic tropicals that I just dream of. It sounds like paradise! Here I was thinking I'd really like to live in Texas, but now I may just have to give PR a look. Thanks for enlightening me.
NancyAnn
Nancy - one of these days I will, count on 18 hours there and back got to talk the wife into that one!
I am still working on something for our trade - I hope sooner rather then later. You have to many DLs, cannas, and those wonderful Dantua for me not to try. Just getting started on my DLs with 80 some (habit thanks to Arlene) so now I got to figure out how to get to trade some of those too. (What am I thinking I cannot find a trade for the cannas and already working on the DLs)
You could give me some hints on what you dont have/ would want some more of -
And you know you are heading here to TX - and if you stop here on the way to where you are going I will have a lighter load :-)
Hey Mitch,
I am so overloaded with plants right now that I am not even trading for plants anymore. I need Roundup, Preen, and Miracle Grow (or generics). Gotta get control of these weeds and THEN I'll add the Miracle Grow to boost my plants. But no point in Miracle Growing now and boosting those dadgum weeds! LOL
wish you lived closer. I'm continually culling out plants as my daylily addiction consumes me. I have about 350 varieties now and I don't know where I'm going to put them all! But does that stop me from bringing home more? Naaaaaah.
Remember, I'm just an hour from Memphis. Everyone has a reason to go to Memphis. LOL
NancyAnn
Nancy
I might have to look up a reason you know it is just my wife does not see that gas cost for the plants being a good thing! But I am working on her, sometimes these things take time.
350 - that will be a sight to see when they are all in bloom.... so when does the EBay store open - Butterfly Daylilies?
Mitch
I also have:
Spearmint
Apple mint
Boston Ivy
Violets that are white with a lavender face
Iceberg Sedum
Yellow flag irises
Rudbeckia Herbstone - huge plant, got 6ft tall this year!
Cuttings from various roses and shrubs
A box of garden books
3 wicker plant stands
I have these for to trade for something I'd really like to have:
Zebrina (bloodleaf) banana
Tropicanna Canna
Tropicanna Gold Canna
Tropical Sunrise Canna
Peacock Ginger - Silver Spot
Peacock Ginger - Jungle Gold
Foxtail Fern (a form of asparagus fern)
Excalibur Elephant Ear
Fallax Elephant Ear
Wentii Elephant Ear
Black Magic EE
Illustris EE
Rooted Perilla Magilla
Rare Succulents (Haworthias, Gasterias, Sanseverias, etc)
All these plants could go to the right person who lives near enough to come over and get them. You may even have to dig a few up yourself. Some are already dug and potted.
I have many more plants you might talk me out of a piece of. Anybody live within an hour or two of me? I can fill up your trunk if these plants interest you.
NancyAnn
Stop killing me down here! I need to stop watching this thread. . .
Last call for these plants. They're going to compost within a week unless someone can come and get them. I simply don't have the room for them and I don't have time to pack and mail them off for trades. I could send some lucky newbie or even two newbies home with a garden in a trunk if you live near enough to pick these up.
I'd love to trade you a trunkload of these plants in exchange for Preen or Roundup concentrate. So speak now or forever hold your piece.
NancyAnn
Have you posted on Freecycle? I am certain there are folks who would love to have some of your plants in their yard - other than myself of course! I have given away about 2 dozen plants, just by ANSWERING ads on Freecycle. People post, asking for plants. You arrange, via email, for them to come & pick them up. You can also specify that they dig them out as well. An hour from Memphis - it sounds like it would work! Your plants should go to someone - ME, preferably, but given the fact that I am too far away, then someone ELSE this time! I am sure someone would really appreciate them-
Julie
Yes, I've given some away on Freecycle, but in most cases, people say they'll come and get them, and then they don't. So I sit and wait for people who really aren't gardeners and really don't want to do the work. And of course some want the plants if they don't have to dig them and right now, my health prevents me from digging the bigger stuff. So Roundup may be the way I go for most of these plants, if no one here wants them.
Besides, I want to TRADE. And that's not allowed on Freecycle. I feel like a bottle of Roundup or some Preen isn't too much to ask for a carload of plants--an instant garden.
Maybe if I get my kidney situation fixed on Fri., I'll be up to having a plant sale here at the house in a week or two.
NancyAnn
Yes - some folks readily aggree to come by, then renege at the last minute... I guess you just don't know what you will get with a service like Freecycle!
I wish you the best of luck - with your health & your gardens...
Jrush, it's really too bad you're way over there in CT. If you ever get over this way, holler.
N.
ARGGGGH, Nancy Ann, how far are you from an airport? DH works for jetBlue and we can fly for free most places. Do you think if we packed stuff in a box very carefully it would do all right in cargo hold? (unpressurized - maybe everyone would implode?)
Hey Carrie, I'm about an hour and a half from the Memphis airport.
A couple of people are coming this weekend and I hope to send them home with all this stuff. They're bringing trucks, so that should clear it all out. I hope! I might tell 'em it's all or nothing. LOL Actually both traders are really wanting a little of everything, so I'm gonna load them both up. One is coming from Mtn Home and one from Little Rock, here in Arkansas. It's too bad you don't live closer. I could load you up regularly. I'm always changing my mind about my design and my choice of plants. But hey, the house across from me is for sale. Have you ever considered living in the South? LOL
NancyAnn
