I just got 2 of these last week. I am so thrilled.
I am in love
It's beautiful, Kell. I want one. I need to come to California to plant shop.
They do look lile wax don't they, Ada?
You need to come here to live!!!
Yes, I sure do. I love all the neat plants you're buying.
What is it?
Absolutely gorgeous!!
yeah, what is it? I want to be in love, too!
Is it a Chilean Bell vine or a Lapagaria? Very pretty!
:) Donna
That is a beautiful flower Kell. I am so jealous of the things you can grow there!
Susie, I am hoping I can grow it here. I wish I had gotten it earlier in the season so it could get established better before winter.
Yes Donna, Chilean Bellflower, Lapageria rosea.
I met the grower and hybridizer of these who works at the Berkeley Botanical Gardens. You should have seen what he had growing. Be still my heart. Marilyn (Pekasky here) who also volunteers there but runs their cactus and succulent department, hooked me up with him.
Here is the other I one I got.
These are so beautiful.

kell all I can say is..OMG!!!that pale pink is awesome!
Kell - although I live in central Illinois, I was in San Francisco over the past weekend - and went to the Berkeley botanical garden sale! I came home with a lapageria, also - pale pink variegated! I've got a greenhouse, and am hoping it will do well there - if not, I will FIND a place to grow it, as I am also hopelessly in love with this plant!!! Thanks for sharing your pictures! Karen

Oh my, were the leaves variegated???? Be still my heart. I am going to get more if I keep these alive. They like cool coastal area and that is me.
Did you meet Carlos? You saw all his babies. He had lots of passion vines also. I am going back.......... once my husband forgets. LOL
Marilyn, a great friend of the Gardens, had me become a member. So I need to go a lot. LOL I will tell my DH that I need to get my membership money's worth.
He had this one on his growing grounds. I loved it. If you say you got this one, I will be so green with envy.
Kell - I will take a picture of the one I got when it arrives and post it - it is a variegated white and pink - not like the one you posted. The "vines" place was UNBELIEVABLE - I also bought three passion vines and a bomarea! The bomarea is gorgeous also (but not quite as beautiful as the lapageria!) You said you joined - do they often have sales?!?! If so, I'd love to know about them and find out if they take orders via email!!! Don't know if my DH will forget soon, though, as we had to lug all those plants back to downtown San Francisco via taxi, BART and a five block walk!! Worth it, though! :o) Karen
Geez, what kind of friends are they?? Sounds like you need some new ones, Margie. LOL
Sue and I saw those too, last week. But in the interim they left them out in full sun and now they look just terrible. It is so sad. I believe those are from Carlos also.
Margie, if you really want one, I would try to buy direct from Carlos! He is the nicest guy. He didn't even toss me out of his booth as he tried to set up for the sale and I was gushing all over, touching everything. I went thru a box he had with his passion flower signs trying to see if he had ones Susie and CC wanted. He didn't have them out yet and he was not pleased I could tell but was still most gracious. He probably was scared to death of me, I was a woman on a mission! LOL
Everyone tried to get me to leave and I wouldn't go. LOL. I was mesmerized.
Picturelady - what kind of friends, indeed, talk you OUT of buying plants??? LOL! Especially with lapagerias. Thanks for sharing your pictures, though! Karen
Actually, they didn't talk me out of it...I talked my self out of it...but they didn't even try and change my mind!!! :-(
I am going to be in trouble if they see this! Next time they WILL try to talk me into spending and buying!
Thank you!
Ahhhhhhhh....Kell, they are beautiful!!!
Absolutely gorgeous pictures both of you. I really like the mixed color pic. I didn't know that there were so many different varieties. You're lucky girls.
Ha, I was just admiring Margie's restraint, actually, we barely noticed Margie wasn't buying much, we were too busy doing our own shopping!
Here's a shot Margie took of Tracy (lilystorm) and I at Annie's Annuals, she bought 2 wagon's full, I bought 1.
While I think the Chilian Bell flowers are gorgeous, I was afraid of them! LOL, will they survive my hot summers, rainy winters? I'll let Kell find out for me for now!
They are beauties, thank you. I think this plant is on the back burner or my wish list somewhere. I must bring it to the front once again. Most lovely. Oh and did I say no more trops to bring in? An ephemeral rule at best.
I'm sooo jealous Kell!!!!!
Really Sunrize. If you ever find one around here please let me know. I tried once to grow it from seed and I was a dismal failure.
me too
twice......
Kell and everybody...those lapagerias are just fantastic!! I wish I could grow them here!! Lucky you!!!
