To tell you the truth, I don't know the answers to those questions. I took this picture at a nursery belonging to my friend who is an expert on ornamental grasses. The plants in this picture are actually growing in pots -- you can see the blue oat grass in the pots behind them. All I know about Japanese blood grass is that it spreads, so it should be sited carefully.

True...I planted mind a month ago and I'm already seeing shoots coming up about 1 to 2 inches from the clump! I figure I'll just have plenty to give away! :)
