Seed trading question

Milford, CT(Zone 6a)

I am busy harvesting seed from columbine, dianthus, rose campion delphnium, etc. My question is this...these are all small seed plants and I would like to get a better idea of what amount of seed to place in the envelopes that would be considered the "proper" amount for trade. I don't want to disappoint anyone. I have larger amounts of some seed than others...what is proper procedure? Your help is greatly appreciated!

(Zone 5a)

For seed count some people used to put 1/8 tsp. That seemed like a fair amount to me when the seeds are small. Use your judgement on how many you would like to receive if you were getting them.

Thanks for the tip I was wondering myself, getting ready to work up what I have.

have read here and otherwise that 25-30 is a good trade. This gives your trader a good chance at germination. You could count out that many, measure and then use that measure for that particular seed.

So I would have to count 25-30 teeny seeds of petunias as fly away as they are???J/K....I do have a problem w/them,tho,they are sticking to the tape I seal the envelope with!Any advice?Seed saving is real new to me.I've done plant swaps mostly!....Jane

When I close my seed packs, I generally fold them so that not only the flap, but a little of the opposite side is folded over. That seems to hold the seeds in really well.

luvnblooms, an 1/8 of a teaspoon is probably a good choice for petunias and poppies, things like that.

I measured one of the seed pods to a Poppy and it equaled 1/2 tsp. I actually thought that was too little to trade with someone?? Any thoughts?

most people are very generous with poppy seeds, most traders send probably a whole seed pod. But it depends on how common the poppy is. and how many you have. I don't know how generous petunias are with their seeds. It's up to each trader. I have been sent 25 poppy seeds and thought it was a little light:(
I just went and got 2 trades of petunias that someone sent me. One had 1/4 teas. in it, one less than 1/8. Go figure.
