What might this be on my frosty pink

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Sure doesn't look like ahumingbird moth, DH said that's what it was. But I don't think so.

Anybody know, he's got this huge long thing that he goes way upinto the brug flowers with.

Hummingbird moth? that would be my guess by the size of it.

DH told me a week or so ago that he seen something simular to a hummingbird on one of my brugs when he pulled into the driveway. He said he had only seen it in his headlights. I told him it was probably a hummingbird moth even though I hadn't seen it and he swears it was almost the size of a hummer. I am still going with a HM but would love to hear if thought to be anything different.

I showed him your pic and he said thats what he seen.

Looks like a hummingbird moth to me. LOL

Great shot. It has another name but I think it goes by hummingbird moth. It looks like a hummer when it flies.

Ok, if this is a hummingbird moth, what are those little moth like things, that have a body that looks like a bee. but their also shaped like a humingbird and fly like one too, their small. I thought they were hummingbird moths.

I was checking out some of the Sphingidae moths...huge for moths. Some are over 5 inches!! very interesting

That picture I took was pure luck, My camera doesn't take good shots, I actually snapped that when he ws still up inside the flower by the time the camera took the shot, he had come out. Perfect timing LOL.

I love your pic

kathy_ann, check on Garden Foes #6, I think they had one very similar on there today and he didn't get good reviews, but he's really pretty, if that is indeed him...

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Great links ladys thanks, I guess the little bee shaped one is a humingbird moth too. Thanks

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh I want a pink humming bird moth. Too cool!!!! I love the pictures you guys. And the links are great too.

Sherry, why are they in Garden Foes?? Aren't they good guys? Is the caterpillar of these just huge? Are they colorful??

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I think the catapillar of them looks exactly like a tomato horn worm, but don't get me to lying LOL

Hey ada, Thanks for posting that link.

I never knew which HB moth we had until now.

It's a Snowberry Clearwing Hummingbird Moth

Hope my next camera (Helloooo Santa-Baby ! ) will be able to capture them.

Guess I oughta try to be good until then, eh ?

You can try to be good until then Scoot .... but I've always heard that bad girls have more fun. Tee hee!

Night_shade posted a moth that resembles the one kathy_ann posted and I have attached it to this post. I cannot see kathy's well enough to tell much about it. Night says this Pickle Moth is a bad one to have. Do they look similar or is it just my imagination?

Oh no, the pickle moth is very different from the sphinx. Last night there must have been 20 sphinx moths around the brugs, they were flying right up into the flowers. They are big, like a hummingbird and have red eyes when the light shines on them.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Whew! I was worried LOL. That one in that link you sent sherry, is alot smaller and quite diff than the one I took pictures of. I'll have to remember that about that pickle moth.

thanks

I will have to watch out for the pickle moth too. I didn't know they were bad. Thanks Sherry!

I've never seen either moth, but that Pickle Moth sounds like a doozie, whew!!
