I have a thread on the ID forum re a plant given to me as an 'Orchid Cactus' but am in some doubt. I have only ever seen pics (and now have some cuttings - thanks George) and the foliage on my plant certainly doesnt ressemble what I have seen. Not getting a lot of info so am wondering if some of you folks would check out the thread and give your opinion. I didnt have any pics when I first posted but have been able to add some now.

need help from you Epi specialists!
Hi Carol
I cant help you out but the flower is gorgeous....maybe it will give you more buds soon......the plant is very interesting also....obviously, it is liking where you have it!
Sandy
You know what...the foliage almost looks like a Rhipsalis species to me. Does it get little berries after it flowers? Most Rhipsalis do, where as epi's don't. If it doesn't, it probably is an epi. The flowers certainly look like an epi. That's the best shot I can give for now. Hope that helps.

Thanks Jess - I kind of wondered about Rhipsalis too but I checked some pics and it didnt look right. But Im a real newcomer with these plants. The plant has had 2 flowers since I got it in July ( which is pretty good considering it only flowered once in 10 years with previous owner!) Have not seen berries of any kind - the lst flower just shrivelled up and dropped off.

My hunch is that many epi's are hybrids with various other cacti. That accounts for the strange growth patterns and also makes it very difficult to pinpoint their origins.
I was thinking Rhipsalis too when I first saw it. It's gorgeous whichever variety it is.
Thanks everyone!
Budgie :As you say whatever it is it is rather gorgeous. I love what I call 'wierd but wonderful' plants and I sure got one here!
