Arlette,

I just noticed your posting and thought I'd pass along this link - Lilypon talks about Can-U.S. trading rules about halfway down the thread. Hope this is helpful.

sphynx, can you tell me about the care of Rex begonias. I bought an escargot and another unnamed Rex. They do not look to happy. I need some advise from someone who is successful.

Mine are on a porch where they do not get any direct sun. I water every couple of days or so. I know that some of the leaf lose is from rough handling in the store.

Thanks

Hi George
Happy you asked about the way i keep my begonias . First of all mine are kept inside all year round (i could take them out during summer but i have a lot of tropical and succulent plants that i do take out so the begonias are kept inside . I give them 14 hours of artificial lignt a day (neons) and a least once or twice a day i try to spray them with water , just a fine mist .Especialy rexes love humidity
but not constantly wet soil . i wait till the soil is dry and that i see the leaves and stem start to soften a little bit then it is really time to water. eventualy i get to be able to wait as long as possible to water them without letting them wilt witch is not really good if it happens to often . they like humid air and the soil has to dry on the surface before watering , they store a lot of water in their thick stems so constant wet soil will make them rot . every day i have a look at my begonias and in a few secons i know wich one need watering just by the way the plant looks . If you are interested i can e-mail you a photo of each one of my begonias . Happy to chat with you
Bye for now
