H imperialis takes it's sweet time
Terrific sequence. Thanks for sharing that.
Boy, it sure DOES take it's sweet time. Don't know if I will LIVE long enough to see many of those blooms. Ha.
Marcy
It is SO worth the wait, isn't it?
Christina
Mark....does it have a fragrance? Mine don't (doesn't....can't detect)....curious here.
Carol
No, Carol, not even a hint of fragrance, and I have a pretty good nose. Sad, for such a remarkable flower. Funny, I really do need a scent from a bloom. As beautiful and elegant as these flowers are, they aren't really very exciting to me. I hadn't thought that would be the case, but live and learn.
Seems to me Christina's have scent...funny ours don't.
I think it is just that sweet Swedish air. ;-)
It's the cosmic joker......
Nope, they DO smell. Every morning when we come down in the kitchen the whole kitchen is filled with this semi-sweet fragrance mixed with a little citrus and bubblegum. The fragrance is gone before 7 in the morning so you got to get up early in the morning to sniff imperialis. What don't we do for our hoyas?

Next time my H. imperialis blooms I am hanging DH from the eaves and H>I> is sleeping next to me!!!!
Carol
OK...I give up. What... (or who).. is H>I> ??
H> for Hoya I> for imperialis... I guess!
Christina
Yep.
I see I missed another neat thread. Wow....I can't believe you had to wait that long to see it completely opened! I would be a basket case by the time that happened.....lol. Awesome, Mark!

Hey Donna (PerennialGirl), talke a look at this thread http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/547963/ to see what happened to MarkRoy68's blooms on their way to maturity - it encountered a pest that many of us have to deal with ...
ann
I didn't realize that was the same plant...lol. Poor Mark! He did at least see the blooms. Thanks for the link.
:) Donna
