Hi ! I got some Rose of Sharon seeds this past spring and planted them; they are now blooming. I planted them in groups by their color (Based on what the seed packages said they were). Unfortunately, the person I got the seeds from must have gotten the seeds mixed because I have some violet ones coming up with my whites and some of the whites are pure white and some have red 'highlights' around the stamen - here is my question:
Do Rose of Sharon cross pollinate easily? I want to keep these seeds true to color, so do I need to move the violet one that is up in the middle of my whites away from them to keep them from crossing?
I have a feeling, based on the number of different 'Rose of Sharon' types in the DB that these do cross easily, but I wanted to check before unnecessarily moving this plant.
Also, here is a picture of the two whites that I have - are these different cultivars or is one just a mutation or a cross of some sort?
Any info on keeping these seeds coming true would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Onalee
