New to elephant ears. I love them so much!

OK. I have and have always been a flower person but suddenly I have a new love for tropicals. I am fascinated with all the different elephant ears. I am in zone 9b in Florida. My question is "will my elephant ears stay all big and leafy or will they die and come back in the spring"? I have planted them for kind-of a hedge type between our house and the neighbors. Thank you for all your expert advice. I have learned so much on this forum just from reading everyone's posts. Mr. Brian Williams is so incredibly knowledgeable. Thanks again for any of your responses.

Hi Blue,

I'm down the road from you near Orlando. My ears only die with a hard frost, but they don't get as big as Brian's. I don't know what his trick is? Not ignoring them maybe? Have fun with your new love.

Thanks for the kind responses. A lot of time it depends on what they are if they will get big or not. Both of you two should not have any problems getting the EE big especialy the xanthosomas and alocasias. They like the heat bright shade and lots of water and food. Growing them in the ground would be your best bet. I do not fertilize unhealthy plants it will only burn new roots. I find a lot of people over feed or have them in the wrong situations. You get a feel for them once you get a few doing well.
