Today I was out weeding and noticed to my surprise that my paperwhites are sprouting. Isn't it kind of unusual for a spring bulb to be emerging outside in the fall?

paperwhites
Perhaps not. They have just started appearing in shops. I already have some in forcing vases. Since they don't require chilling I suspect that they could be year-round in the right climate.

Roseana,
If you are getting fairly cool nights, it can cause your bulbs to begin sprouting now. It happens to my garden every year, about this time. They will sprout, grow a little, then winter will hit and your bulbs will go dormant. When spring comes around again, they will wake up, and put out more foliage, and flowers just like normal.
