hello, everyone!
looks like i went home just in time. my five (5) brugs along the fence lost most of their leaves when they lost their water source while hubby and i were away. so, i looked up and there were ODD LEAVES. at closer inspection, i realized they are BUDS. i was so worried they will just fall off the following day. i watered and fertilized them. looks like the buds are still hanging around.
these are my first seedlings, before you angels sent me your seeds. got from seedman and labeled "brazilian gold" - - - a catchy name, i guess (to move the seeds). i haven't seen any photo of this anywhere.
these were 14-16" tall beginning of june when i planted them in the ground. they are roughly 6' now.
thank you for looking!
(now excuse me while i dance around like a fool again...counter clockwise this time)
MG
woo-hoo! my 6-ft brug seedlings are budding!
ooops....the buds are 9" long on average, and each plant has 8 at the moment. the tendrils are yellowish.
do i just clean off the leaves before the "y"? then they will have "naked trunks".
what to plant around them? many thanks!
=)
Whooo Hoooo! Good for you. First time, first love, huh. I'm too tired to dance around with you, but know that I'm celebrating quietly along with you. LOL
Mary
oh, mary, thanks! that's sweet. i have a dilemma though: planning on spending some time with my folks in san diego and i don't want to miss out when their buds unfurl. supposed to leave tomorrow...
MG - The one on right and next to it, next to last, those look like they will probably open perhaps tomorrow or next night for you, I am sooo excited for you!!!! How long will you be away? If only a day or two you will get to see them at least in bloom if not the actual unfurling :)
Laurrie
Congratulations!
Its soo exciting to see the first fruits! ;)
You Go!!!
thats great... hope can post pictures never heard of it either...
Twyla
thank you all for the cheer!
i checked today, and no blooms yet =(. i'm trying to delay the trip to san diego a few more hours...hubby will be back here monday, and for sure he won't miss the show. i, on the other hand will be in san diego for 2 weeks. i'll have him take photos daily. (sigh).
you think i can make a huge cutting with the buds and stick it on the ground in san diego? is that super crazy? it's an 8-hour trip.
Hi Annapet! So good to see you posting. Your trees look so great. Amazing how fast they recover. I can't wait to see your flowers!!
Looking good, Annapet!!
Aren't we having such a beautiful day here?? So pretty. I keep thinking of the Gulf Coast coast and then cringe.
gosh, kell. so glad you started that "brug expedition" thread. that photo of sue just inspired me to cut down a couple of budding trees for my mom.
have a great weekend!
That huge white suav looks just like my favorite white seedling here. I got my seed for that one from Kyle. I will post pics later of it. It can get to be 10 inches across the bloom. I love it.
Too bad you are missing the show, Annapet. Maybe the next flush you will be there. What a nice husband to take pics and get them to you to enjoy long distance.
I got a pale yellow from a pink favorite x tiara cross. Wish it would have been a double after tiara. My seedlings had more blooms than all my old ones.
thank you all for the cheers! i'm reading on "evaluating seedlings" and looks like i have a project here.
will chuck the pink.
a good thing i planted these seedlings in full sun and on the berm where it gets windy. awesome test for wind and heat resistance.
seedlings are still in bloom, and still has buds. bloomed within 7 months.
growth is strong and upright, branches are not thin or willowy, and has many side branches.
the form is even, not deformed. corolla pierced the calyx on its own. no green striping.
will look for more reading materials.
=)))
Where did you find the information on Evaluating Seedlings????? I would love to read some information about that!!!
Carol
hi, carol. d-mailed you the link. thanks for looking. i hope we find more literature on that.
