?? for folks with new kittens - I'm thinking of adopting....

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I have had a lot of housecats in my day. But it has been quite a few years since I have had a kitten, at least a normal kitten, in the house, and it won't be long before I will be (shudder) 50 years old.

I'm still considering adopting a kitten. I think he is about 4 months old. Maybe a bit younger. He is with my local division of the Alleycat Org. He was found abandoned under a porch with his brother (both are in the picture). His brother is being adopted tonight. The one I am looking at is the orange and white one. They call him Tip. Their cats are not in shelters. They are all in foster families.

My old cat was PTS about 10 days ago, and I am thinking of adding a new one for myself, and also as a playmate for Lucky, my 3 legged, 2 year old cat. Lucky is always playing when he is not sleeping. He is a very playful funny cat. He seems to miss playing with Casey very much.

They say Tip is a real cool kitten, very playful and funny. Since I know the people in the organization because I have helped them with volunteer work and donations, they are willing to let me have him for a trial and if it doesn't work out, the foster family will take him back. They have quite a few young cats and kittens right now, and Tip is the one that they thought would fit me best when I said I wanted a super playful zany funny cat.

My elderly Mom lives with me and is not at all happy about adding another cat. Currently I have the one cat, and my dog, a 7 year old cat loving Australian Shepherd. She adores cats. Mom is more of a dog person. She is afraid of falling over a kitten/cat and doesn't want to go through the training of keeping them off counters etc. We didn't have to do that with Lucky - with only 3 legs he can't jump that high.

LaurieF has pointed out to me that getting a young adult, or even an adult rather than a kitten might be better, as kittens can be terrors. She did mention that with Lucky, as he was so ill as a kitten, and with the surgeries and missing a leg and all, he didn't act like a regular kitten. It has been about 15 years since I had a "normal" kitten in the house. I may have forgotten what it is like.....

SOOOOO......

Being very realistic.....

What are the ups and downs of having a young kitten in the house? The picture below was taken a couple weeks ago.

Convince me one way or the other - I can meet him on Sunday and bring him home for a trial run.......
