It is a beautiful moring here. The sun is making the eastern sky orange in preperation for it's rising, there's a light breeze and it's in the mid 50s. They are saying that we will hit the 80s by this afternoon - very warm for the first day of autumn!
Stan has been working on getting the fourth cutting done. He's cramming all he can in the big silo. We got a phone call a couple nights ago that some of the land we have been renting is now for sale. The price is a little high and Stan has said a couple of times that he could do without it. Now, of course, he keeps wondering if he should have said yes, and I keep saying no! lol, sometimes! He said if he had gotten the hay off before the call, he wouldn't even be thinking about it, but as he's spending all that time down there now mowing and chopping, it just keeps running through his head.
I've been doing some cleaning up and rearranging in the flower gardens. I bought 3 chrysanthemums this week and put them just outside the back cellar door - main entrance for coming from the barn and gardens. I got two "Helens" - deep garnet red - and a "Helga" - a creamy pale yellow fading to white. I can usually keep them a couple of years, and may take some cuttings. I can't tell you how many of the red ones I've bought over the years.
I ordered bulbs this morning. I decided that knowing I'll buy some whether I order them from a good bulb company or pick them up on sale at Home Depot, so I might as well get the good stuff. I think between John Scheepers and Brent and Becky's it totalled around $65. I'm justifying that by telling myself that I didn't buy a single rose plant this year. I hope it plays as well with Stan, not that he's ever given me a hard time about what I spend on the gardens, it just always feels like such a lot of money!
We have only one male Border Collie puppy left. I'm keep the little female that looks like our old Molley. We've named her Mitzi. She is quite the charmer, and has enormous ears! Tom told his grandfather that some puppies have to grow into their feet, but Mitzi is going to have to grow into her ears. Sadie seems to be much more comfortable now that she's down to 2 puppies. Nine just seemed like a lot to her! Stan forgot to pick up a bag of dog food on Tuesday and yesterday morning when I went to get milk, Sadie just lying across the doorway just inside the milkhouse. Sadie never goes in the milkhouse, so I asked Stan what was up. He said she was disgusted with him, he'd forgotten the dog food and she'd been following him all over the barn giving him very pointed looks all morning. He'd given them milk, but that wasn't what she wanted! I brought her to the house and gave her some leftover hamburger and macaroni and cheese, and she eased off a little, but she was still giving him funny looks last night! What a goofy dog!
Here's a picture of Mitzi, relaxing on the garden bench:
