Christina, Oh sooooo beautiful. I have wanted my imperialis to bloom for so long, but still no such luck. My plant is growing well. Do you give your plant help with additional lighting? How often does it bloom and for how long? Thanks for sharing your beautiful flowers.

Beautiful, Christina! You have a wonderful camera for taking close shots.

No additional lighting. The summers here are (mostly!) sunny enough. Last year it bloomed 4 times from May till October and this year this is the first time. However, last year it didn't grow much, but it sure has this year! These flowers are on a new peduncle, but there are 2 old ones too. My plant is now almost 3 years old and I have it in a sunny window facing west without protecting it from the sun so it gets plenty of if!

It takes about 2 months for the buds to open and then the flowers last almost 3 weeks, but look good for about 2 weeks.

Beautiful!
My H. imperialis seems to be "water touchy". Every time I give it the slightist bit of too much water, it gets yellow leaves & I loose a few. l have to be real careful & just give it a little bit each time. I also have it in a tera cotta pot because of this problem.
Does anyone else have this problem? I took a couple of cuttings, and they are acting the same way.
Needless to say, mine has not bloomed yet as I am forever trying to make sure it even LIVES. ha ha

BEAUTIFUL!!! Can anybody that is wanting a road trip to Florida & Arizona swing by Christina's in Sweden too?? (lol)

Beautiful flower, Christina! Will the color change as the flower matures?
That is sort of strange, Marcy. Maybe it is the plant???? My imperiais goes through dry and wet spells without loosing any leaves and it has bloomed 3 times since spring. Seems to me that some plants just do not want to thrive and grow no matter what care we give them. You may just have one of "those" plants!

What a beautiful flower. I love the pics!!

I hear ya Mel, I had one of "those" hoyas! Mine was a multiflora, no matter what I did for her, she just kept getting sick again. Tried taking cuttings, they didn't make it. They are all in hoya heaven. Good luck with yours Marcy. Christina, I'm sure you can read my mind by now, but I'll tell you anyways, what beautiful flowers!

What gorgeous blooms My Hoya! I hope the hoya named " imperialis" that I have on order from Pike Lake Greenhouse turns out to be correctly named (can't remember if Christine's (ceedub) was id'd as such or not). It and a number of others are arriving at the Bus Depot tonight. :^)))

edited to say I found the thread and I don't think it will be. So will have to contact Perry (Flora Exotica) in the spring.

Lilypon, I think Carol and I decided that the "H.Imperialis" from Pike Lake is actually "H.Calycina", but blooms will tell for sure.....lucky I'm paient... Once I do have that confirmation, I told Tom at PL that I'd let him know exactly what it is so he can change his labelling.
