Here ya go Lilypon

The flower stalks for this Hosta have been long cut back, but it decided to throw out one more.

Isn't this odd?

Hey there Mr. Hosta, it's Sept. 20th - 2 days away from the Autumnal Equinox.

Joan:

So many of my flowers are going into a second cycle this year. I've never seen it before.

I think it's because the weather got so blasted hot so fast that they came and went, and now they think it's spring again.

I'm just afraid if it gets cold before they finish, that they'll not come back next year.

I wonder what the folks-who-know-stuff think?

I'll be watching this space to see if there are any informed answers.

Do you think it will flower and go through its complete cycle, Joan? Do you think it will harm it if it doesn't?

I agree. I too believe the flowers and plants all think it's spring again. I have hostas and delphiniums reblooming, and even my lavender is reblooming! Now that's something I've never had happen before!

That was the flower bud in the picture and it is gradually opening up and the stalk is getting taller. This clump of Hosta has been there for years and is so well established that I don't think much can harm it. As for other plants, I can't claim to be an authority, but I imagine they'll be OK.

I have three pots with hosta on my patio in pretty well shade, and all three of them shot up new flower stalks that are flowering now. The hostas themselves are looking pretty terrible, but the flowers look lovely!
