Yes, the garden party is still on schedule for this Sat, Sept 24, beginning about 10 a.m. at my house in Jonesboro, Arkansas. If you haven't already signed up to come, it's not too late.
We'll do some trading and visiting at my house. Then we'll go to a nearby pizza joint and have pizza/pasta/salad/dessert buffet (about $6 per person). After that we'll tour a couple of local gardens and the new Nature Center if we have time.
Everyone is welcome. You don't have to bring anything but yourself and anything you wish to trade, as well as other plant addicts or wannabe gardeners.
If you need directions, email me and let me know where you'll be coming from.
Come on out and have some fun with us!

CLOSED: Plant Swap for Gardeners in AR, TN, MS, MO, KY Etc
Hey Nancy, guess what? I am going to get to make this trip afterall. YIPPEE! I am bringing alot of the things I had left from the other swap, and a few others so I'll have something to trade, and clear off my carport. Maybe someone will trade with me, lol. See you again soon girly girl. Your swaps are always sooo much fun!! I suggest anyone that is able to make this swap come on over. Nancy is a wonderful host, and you get to meet alot of generous gardeners like yourself. I am so excited!
Sheila I'm glad your going to get to go. You have a ride then?
I don't think i'm gonna make it, I have to go in for a couple of tests this friday. They think it's stomach ulcer but want to make sure. I haven't felt too good all week. And guess what brought it on? PIZZA! MAn, I don't know if I can live without that stuff. But I'm not eating it for a while that's for sure. If it's not one health issue it's another these days, I thought I was doing all the right things to make myself healthy again. But when I was in the hospital a while back, they said I tested possitive for the H pylori Bacteria, which causes ulcers. I guess it was just a matter of time, and with the great deal of stress w/ family being in the hurricane, and me housing some of them, It was too much I guess.
Does stress cause your hair to fall out? cause mine is coming out in gobs after I wash it. I won't have any left at the rate i'm going.
Sorry Nancy. I'm just gonna have to back out.
Maybe we can get together later on.
kathy
Sheila, I'm so glad you can come! We'll see what else we can send home with ya.
KathyAnn, I do hope you'll make it! Pizza Inn has salads and pastas too and sometimes soup. So you don't have to eat pizza.
You may have the kind of ulcer that can be treated with antibiotics. Terry did. He'd had ulcers for years and once was even hospitalized with bleeding ulcers. But a few years ago, they gave him some antibiotics and he hasn't had any problems since. Maybe that's all it will take for you! I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Please try to come. I haven't visited with ya in a while, and I'm sure everyone would love to meet ya. This is the last shindig of the year. And we're going to have so much fun! We'll miss you if you can't make it.
NancyAnn
I'll try, no promises yet though . when I was in the hospital they put me on strong antibiotics to clear out the bacteria (H pylori) so I probably do have that kind of ulcer. I made them stop bringing the antibiotics to me cause I got sick everytime they gave them to me. Really sick! I think they were just trying to do too much to me at one time when I was in for the by pass. Tried to fix everything.
Kathy, I am sorry to hear your not feeling well, but maybe the docs can make it all better. I do so hope your able to make the trip, however I completely understand if you can't. Oh yeah don't stress so much about your hair. I lose a handful everythime I brush mine..no bald spots yet, lol. Sending you a get well wish. You will definetly be missed if you can't make it to the swap. I decided to take my car because I want to take plants that I must get rid of so I can have my carport back again.
I have purchased duplicate plants from lowe's for pennies. They aren't beautiful, but they aren't dead either. Would these be suitable for trading?
I would like to come and trade, but not sure what my schedule is going to look like for that weekend.
Osteole, the party is THIS weekend, just a few days from now.
You could bring those plants. If they're perennials, we all know we can trim them back and they will regrow as long as the roots are healthy. So someone will trade you something for them.
We will also trade for ANYTHING we can use--soil, gloves, garden tools, PREEN, Miracle Grow, books, magazines, jewelry, clothing, anything you might have planned for a yard sale, anything we can use in our homes or our gardens.
Hope you can come!
NancyAnn
How does the trading work? Free for all or organized, I choose something, you choose something? Just curious
Each person is responsible for their own trades. For instance, you might want something I have, and I'd look over what you have and select something of yours. Then we'd decide if we wanted to swap this for that. Some items are rare and therefore worth more. And most of us want to trade for something we don't already have. And then of course, when all the trading is done, a lot of folks won't want to carry back home the stuff they brought. So then they just give it away.
We're pretty laid back and relaxed with our trading so don't be shy. We mostly just have a great time hanging out and talking plants. It's a great way to see plants you've never heard of before and be introduced to different garden styles and techniques. You'll have a great time whether you trade or not. My mailman, who is not into plants at all, came to my first swap just to hang out. He had a blast! His daughter may come to this one. She's just beginning to garden. Come on along and have fun with us.

According to Mapquest, it's a 6 hour round trip. *cry*

Osteole, I'm sorry you won't be coming. But I understand. I don't travel too far from home myself, which is why I have hosted the garden parties for the last three years.
I do believe this year is my last year to host one though. I stress out so much over what I need to do to get my gardens nice and neat for the parties. And there's only so much I can do by myself. I really need to clone myself about 6 times. It doesn't help that I've been dealing with various health problems for the last three years and haven't been able to accomplish all the stuff I need to.
So for a few years, I'm going to let someone else host the garden parties and I'll just spend all my time perfecting my gardens. Once they're more established, they'll be easier to maintain, and I'll be prouder to show them.
Sheila and KathyAnn, I'm glad y'all are coming. You can see the progressive change in my gardens. And you know I got something you want. So come and get it! LOL
NancyAnn
Hey, Sheila, we're coming, do you want to trade something for your blue balsam mint, I better get some while I can, not sure if mine's going to come back or not. I have other mints if your interested, give me an email ok.
kathy
See everybody Saturday. I'm looking forward to it. Been so long Nancy.
Nancy, I was just curious with the weather as it is suppose to be if you're swap is still on, and if not then when, if at all, did you plan to reschedule? It's suppose to be ugly tomorrow. Please let me know asap please. Thanks, Sheila.
Where in TX does Tana live. I hope she's out of Rita's path!
Sheila, I don't if we're having a party. I've had 14 cancellations for various reasons. I do not plan to reschedule the party. My health is unpredictable right now and I just don't how I'll feel from one day to the next. Someone else can host the next party.
Since we don't know how bad the weather will be, I guess we shuold just cancel the whole thing. Besides the four of us who are already in Jboro, there's only two others who may come from MS. But if the weather is going to be bad, it would be a wasted trip for them.
Sheila, you're always welcome to visit anytime.
Tana is out of Rita's way. In fact, her friends from Houston are staying with her. You remember Janette who was at our last party? Janette, her husband, and some of their friends are weathering the storm at Tana's.
NancyAnn
I hope you get to feeling better Nancy. Don't worry about the party, they'll be others one way or the other =).
