Putting Away

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

It'll be time to put away the brugs soon. I'm going to dig them up, trim back roots and stuff them into pots. Then put into a clear garbage bags in the basement where it never gets too cold.

How do I trim the plants down? To where? Can it be below the y? Does it have to be above? And, how do I seal off those cuts? I hate when it shrivels.

Actually the roots are not trimmed until the following Spring when they are re-potted.

Trimming beforehand will put lot of stress on the brug which is going to need all the strength it has to successfully come out of dormancy.

I have a bunch of 4" seedlings. How are they overwintered?

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Those small seedlings need to be kept growing .

Small seedlings do not have the rootball needed to survive dormancy.

Put them in a bright window and as growth and leaf production slows cut back on the water.

Winter root rot can occur if they get more water than they can use up.

I think your babies will do fine (((*-*)))

Good thing I posted that. But how do I trim down the branches?

Oh, and what does it mean if my seedlings' leaves turn yellow occassionally?

I'm hoping someone answers your question CaptMicha, I'm getting ready to start digging also and would love to know where to cut to allow me cuttings and keep the plant.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

When cutting down plants for overwintering I leave 4 to 6 nodes on each branch above the blooming zone.
All depends on how much room you have .

blooming zone being above the "Y"
