Identification help?

I hope this is allowed!!??

I finally posted my last vacation pics on a website for friends to see (some of us can't take all the vacations that Todd does ) and I keep getting asked what the flowers/trees/fruts are - and wouldn't you know it, the couple times I thought to ask no one knew. But mostly I just forgot to ask, since I was too busy looking around.

If any of you know your tropical flowers well, could you take a look at:
http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=4165380&a=31893130&pw=

and give me some names where possible?

BTW, while I think to ask - there has to be some way of learning to look things up by myself, but haven't a clue what it could be - can someone (or everyone) give me some places to get started on the learning curve here? My memory is so bad lately with the health problems, that I'm not sure what I'll learn, but it's gotta be better than now.

Thanks for anything and all . . .

Looks like you had a great trip! All my 'vacations' were actually business trips...my real vacation is in November when I head to Argentina. Meanwhile, in regards to your tropical flowers, the blue looks like Cobaea scandens, but that plant should have lavender flowers not blue...so I'm not sure. The pink is Bougainvillea...the yellow is Allamanda. Both are very popular landscape plants in the tropics.

That turtle is amazing!!!!! was it nesting on the beach at night?
It looks like a 1000. lbs at least. It is outstanding!!
Oh the flowers are top notch too but that turtle just catches me in a funny awesome way.

Ok Marilyn now I have figured out how to use the view thing on the album I know what this old girl was up to. How exciting to be there for such a special time. It's almost like you were helping history.

Annabelle, it was truly awesome, in the original sense of the word.

A year and a half ago, and I still get goosebumps.

And Todd, the flower was just the blue it showed up - it positively glowed. So many beautiful things to see.

The only one I think I remember, because the name just sticks, is the tree with the red flowers that has a flat top (the tree, not the flowers). It's called a Flambouyant Tree - and it surely is that!!

Todd:

The plant files says that Cobaea Scandens is blue or white, the pictures on the site are pink and purple - but I'm not sure whether this is a good identification. As I recall, it wasn't nearly as trumpet shped as the flowers in th PFs do, and didn't have the long stamens (?) - pistils (?) (Shoot, that stuff was grade 3 or 4 Natural Science, and I don't remember which is which)

I'm going to look up the others, though bougainvillea does ring a bell.
Yep, that's surely it. I remember particularly the papery look of the blooms.
The Allamanda looks right too.

I'm going to do a google on that blue one, and see if any web pics can make me sure that either it is or isn't.

**Do you folks know that if you search for pics of plants on the web, Dave's pretty much always comes up first. Guess you guys are really good!!**

Just found out that Cobaea Scandens is considered an invasive weed inNZ, so am going to send to a NZ friend and see if he recognizes, or not.

I'll be back to see what else folks have to say . . .
Thanks for so far.

Wonderful pics cybercrone! The yellow is indeed a Golden Trumpet, Yellow Allamanda (Allamanda cathartica)......here is a pic of mine: http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/57126/ ...there are a number of Allamandas but the leaves and the stems make me pretty sure it's the large vining one like mine.

The blue one is a Blue Pea Vine, Butterfly Pea 'Blue Sails' (Clitoria ternatea): http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/85142/

I don't know the names of the flowers either. :( The tree was a Papaya tree.

What a fantastic vacation you must have had.

Thanks for the pictures.

Hi Lilypon and Darrell:

ILili - think the Pea Vine is it - wow! great to have names.

And Darrell, thanks for the fruit ID - no one else gave me that info. I just remembered it was something I'd like to eat if I was there at another time of the year.

I'm going to put the common names up on the site. No one I know would appreciate the finesse of the Latin names - except the Dave's crew of course

Thanks so much, all of you.
