Well I can't find the original thread, where we discussed pinching off the tips of Brugs to promote "y"ing and earlier blooms, so I am starting a new one. To bring people up to speed. I had a Forevermohr cutting with two branches coming out of it so I thought this would be the perfect test plant. I mean.. you can't get more exact conditions then having the same root system! I pinched off one tip and left the other alone. First a pic of the plant
Pinching tips to promote "Y"ing
She is very pretty and I love her foliage!! Maybe pinching one side made the other side Y??
I don't know.. but if that was it then it took over a month to do..lol.. I remember that I also pinched a seedling that I had a couple of and the unpinched seedling has 'Y'd and is on it's second flush. I didn't want to count that though as I have these guys planted in different spots and the pinched seedling is about 3 foot high while the unpinched is over 6 foot high. I am thinking that their conditions are too different for a true comparison.
just so you know.. the pinched side never had "y"d.. other side has flowers blooming..
what lush foliage, laura.
That's ForeverMohr, I brought her inside and she has a bud thats blooming..
I hope it finishes since all the other buds fell off once i brought it inside :(
Well, all the seedling my young worker pinched Y'd...so I have pinched the rest of them!!! One or two are Y'ing as well....less than a year from seed. I pulled out all the droopy brugs...their roots were rotten. Mystery!
weird about the rotten roots.. were they in a low spot?
Thanks Moonglow.. she looked good until I gave her the Bayer 3 in one.. then all her leaves fell off..I was pretty sure I mixed correctly.. but maybe I poured too much in the pot..I watered the day before but I poured the whole gallon of mix in.. is that too much?
Too bad Carol. I wonder if you plant brugs in the same place if you will get root rot again. Must be a fungus, you think?
Laura, I haven't used the 3 in 1 on my brugs before, just the 2 in 1, the granules. I have really burned a few plants with them. But only the ones in pots, never the ones in the ground. They immediately drop their leaves. It is the fertilizer in it.
1. I had mother nature to some pinching,
always took longer for new growth to emerge,
while the other branches never slowed and 'Y' weeks earlier
2.>>> just the 2 in 1, the granules-Bayer
Has anyone ever tried the Marathon granules?
Less leathal to plants? Had some Brugs do the leaf drop due to 3-1Bayer
I used it for 2 years now, never had this happen before
all looking poor, some have no roots left, none want to root now either

Hmm.. for plants that like fertilizer they are sure finicky about it! lol
I hand sow 15-15-15 or 14-14-14 everywhere in the yard . Is this to strong for Brugs ? What is a good brand name .
I also use mircale grow in a sprayer on the leaves of everything
i use the costco bought MG 24-8-16 weekly. but what do i know =).
Really a big mystery. Could be a fungus...we have a lot of that amungus!!! Fusalarium can be bad...but since it was only 'part' of the bed.???..I gave the rest Ag. Lime and fertilizer. They seem to be OK.
