EE flowers?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

This is my first year growing Elephant ears. My bigest plant is about 8 feet tall with 3 foot leaves. It has produced some yellow flowers. Will this hurt the plant? Is this normal?

jester, here is a pix of my yellow flower on EE Illustris. I did nothing with it, just let it die on its own, and plant is doing great. This is the first time any of my EEs has ever flowered.

edited to add the same plant today is about 18" tall, w/ 3 leaves, in a pot. I had divided the mother plant, with the purpose of trading, and when I noticed the flower on the division, I just left it alone and have kept the plant in my holding area.
