Lotus Quilt

SO I went to the quilt show this weekend - How beautiful is this??? The picture does NOT do it justice. This woman hand dyed the flower petal fabric (we think after it was sewn on - were not sure)

I can't believe no one responded to this thread. That quilt is knock down drag me out gorgeous. The detail is phenomenal. I think this is by far one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen. I love textiles particularly when the subject matter appeals to me. Thanks for posting the photo!

I didn't take the dimentions -- but I believe the quilt is about 4x5 (feet) This is when it first got my attention from across the hall

I would never put that on a bed, I would use it as a painting. It is amazingly beautiful. The flower looks so alive.

That is a georgeous piece of work! The person that made that is an artist!

Not all quilts are made for beds. These are competion quilts - they will most likely live thier lives as wall hangings after they are done making show rounds. 90% of the quilts I saw are not "bed" or "cuddle" quilts (although there were a few that may be after this show)

Most quilters think about the "life" their quilt will have - if it's made for your child to cuddle up with during Saturday morning cartoons it would be made diffrently than a show quilt. Things like the batting on the inside, the lack of beadwork, diffrent intricate stitching -- lots of little things like that.

I should really start a thread in the arts and crafts forum or general to show off the ones I have pictures of. hsfrank you are right -- they (all the quilts) were pieces of art -- it is amazing what an artist can do with a medium that alot of us don't use. We paint with flowers, they paint with fabric - although I think there are quiote a few gardeners who quilt in the winter (we have to do something when it snows! LOL!)

Glad you all enjoyed it. I posted another in the Orchid forum (although you can here crickets for all the attention it got- and it is STUNNING!) so wander over and peek!
