It seldom happens but my Night Blooming Cereus is still open this morning at almost 9am. I had to share a picture.
They are beautiful at night but even more beautiful during the morning light. There are five open and the air is still heavy with the fragrance.

Thank you. They are such beautiful flowers at night. But I enjoy even more when they stay open in the Morning.
Betty
Beautiful, Betty! I can see we like the same things -- brugs, plumerias, and epi's! LOL! That's a great flower.
Picabo,
very pretty pictures!
I find that if the night temperature drops below 60 degr F, the flowers of this Epi sometimes stay open for a few extra hours in the morning. Was this a cool night in your area?
I think that it was cool that night, It has been in the mid 50s at night for several weeks. Two days later it bloomed again, I ran out first thing in the morning but they were already closed. It bloomed again last night and several were still open this morning. Looks like about 6 more blooms to open before time to move it inside.
Clare do you have Jasmines and Hoyas? Those are my other two favorites.
Hi Betty, I have a few jasmines and one Hoya called Hoya odorata that I got from Logee's, but it has never bloomed for me.
How do I get mine to bloom? My friend who gave it to me swears it will, but can't tell me how to encourage it to do so - my husband looks at it every now and then and asks "Why are we keeping this ugly wierdo thing, again?" help!
From what I have read, epi's like to be root bound before they bloom. Some of them will also take 2-3 years before they are large enough to bloom. I have a large rick rack that is over 2 years old. No signs of blooms yet. I am hoping that one will decide to start blooming pretty soon. It is a large and heavy plant.
I had my first Epi 5 years before it bore blooms... magnificent blooms and worth waiting for.
That gives me hope for my rick rack. I credit you with a lot of patience to wait 5 years for an epi to bloom. I think I would have considered tossing it after waiting a couple of years and it didn't bloom. I am still waiting for a fragrant epi to bloom for me. Maybe next year.....
Well, it was real close, but happens I was overwhelmed with work so it just sat under a tree all summer... AND THEN BLOOMED. Man, I was blown away by the bloom. So glad I was too busy to trash it!
It is so worth the wait. Like horsewoman says they bloom best when root bound. My Old plant, the one in the picture, split her pot two years ago and I potted up to 15 Gal, I brought it in for the winter today and it is spliting the pot again. Next spring I am going to have to decide if it is time to cut her back or find a larger pot. It is almost to heavy to move. But worth all of the trouble when it goes on a blooming binge.
Hang in there on yours, feed it well and one day you will be thrilled.
