WANTED: Lotus seeds

Emmaus, PA(Zone 6a)

I would like to try my hand at growing these. I did so once with no real success.

I dont have what to trade but will pay any and all expenses in relation to shipping. thank you.

Casselberry, FL(Zone 9b)

I want some lotus, too. I thought about going to my local florist/craft store and buy a lotus pod or two. I understand these seeds are supposed to last a very long time and still be viable. Has anyone tried this before?

Thanks, Ana

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

I have and they are growing great! I tried 3 seeds one died. So I don't think that's to bad.

I have sacred lotus seeds, just a few. I did two last year and got two plants. The seeds are viable for at least a hundred years, so they are good for a while.

How are these supposed to be germinated? I bought some off ebay and was told to just drop them in water. I put one in warm water a few days ago and am still waiting!
Thanks,

You have to file them first. See http://www.faculty.sbc.edu/simpson/Lotus/index.htm. You file the seeds (or rub on cement, which is what I did, or I have heard some people nick with a sharp knife) being sure not to cut or file into the white inner seed. The water cannot reach the seed until you remove the hard brown outer coat.

Thanks, after I posted I tried to "nick" but I think I got too deep so out to the driveway I go!
