I have a hoya...very new...covered with rachis and 'about to bloom' umbels... H. sp. Kunming Kina! It has had peduncles looking like they were going to bloom since last year...FINALLY!!! I hope to post a picture of open blooms tomorrow....
Oh...ain't life grand?????
Carol
Sitting on pins and needles....
Oh! I hope it blooms soon so we can ALL see!!!
.......pacing like a newly expectant father.....
Got to see pictures of that bloom !! Boy, to have to wait that long watching peduncles just setting there. Can't wait to see the blooms and plant.
And well.....I've been waiting! I know just how you feel waiting for those buds to open. Maybe tomorrow?
Soon soon...the picture is taken...I just have to download it, size it and post it...but the time is short...tonight, I promise.
Carol
Reviewed the photos...awful. New camera/old brain!!! Will take more later.
Hmmm first you sit on pins and needles, now You let us sit on them.
Hurry dear, it's starting to hurt :)
Ya Carol, I have to leave the house at some point today and do some errands. Animals will kill me if I don't get them more treats. I'll be at the computer until I see those pictures, lol!
Heather
OH, help!!! The flowers are SO white they come out all washed out. If I take them out of the bright light, the flash goes on and washes them out.
I have a Canon PowerShot S1 IS and am learning...guess I should read the instructions!!!
Later!
Carol
OOOUCH! The paaaain. Oh the PAIN....... =0)
The flowers sound beautiful and unique!! Suspense and waiting.........
≤≤≤≤≤ Strapped pillow to bottom for the long wait :)
Carol, try to keep the flower in a shadow to avoid the glare of the sun or switch off the Flash when in lower light conditions (Yes more manual reading required)
OK....pulled all the pins and needles out...not sitting on them any more as I try to figure out this %$#(($# camera. Now, not being a very technical person....this is a challenge and DH is out of town and the dogs are useless!!!
Stand by...
Carol
OMG, don't get in a tizzy !! LOL What would you do without your DH??? LOL All the dogs can do is wonder why Mommy is going off the deep end!! Things will work out........
and life goes on.....
your pictures are not going to change the world, so grab some of that NZ tea or shiraz and enjoy your blooms!!
and much alohas!!!!!!
Karen
Right! Good advice, Karen. Priorities are important!!! LOL
Still ROFL, have you got things figured out......whatever they may be.. waiting... hmmm, waiting.... hmmm,, we shall see... Suspense,,, LOL
We're dying here Carol! I was never very good at waiting!
Karen
If this keeps up I'll take a job as a "Fakir" in the Circus ;)
WoW, worth the wait!! Now that is one I have to put on my got to have list!! The leaves are so pretty, and flower-mmmm- such a beauty. With a heavenly fragrance what more could you want? Wonderful !
Lovely hoya. Never heard that name before.
The pictures look just like the ones I take. They're good enough to be "OK", but after seeing other people get close ups of even the hair on butterfly legs, it always makes me feel so dumb. If you ever figure out what your doing wrong... let me know, I have a Cannon too & it must be similar to yours.
Marcy
Nice one Carol, also the leaves are nice on this one. Now can someone explain how heaven smells :)
Marcy, A few tips I can give in regards to the picture takings:
- if taking pics outside it is best to take them early in the morning or later in the evening when the light is "soft"
- Use the Macro function of your camera (if applicable)
- For close-up pictures it is best to use "center spot metering" for the Autofocus (only applicable to cameras where the metering spot can be changed)
- Use a tripod when taking the pics
- Take many pictures and vary distance, angle,....etc. for each shot. Sometimes it takes me more than 20 shots to get one that is reasonably good. (Thank God for Digital Cameras)
Heaven smells like H. sp. Kunming Kina, Milan!! LOL
Good one Carol !!! LOL
LOL I will have to ask the Pope for confirmation on that one.
I'm glad you rementioned the name of the hoya, after everyone posted, I forgot!! Your pictures look great to me. But...I still prefer those disposable cameras!! A nice polaroid is a score indeed!
Heather
Oh my goodness~~~ what a BEAUTY! I just wish the Internet had the ability to transfer smell. Would love a whiff of heaven!
Absolutely gorgeous and worth waiting to see.
THANKS!!
Get gobs of cuttings going NOW!! Who is not going to want a piece of heaven for their collections. Ha
Marcy
beautiful!
Luv the long leaves. I haven't smelled a hoya in a long, long time. Can't remember what they smell like. All I remember is my Aunt saying her's smelled like stinky socks...lol.
:) Donna
Beautiful! Beautiful! I tend to favor white flowers and always want anything that has a wonderful strong scent! Does it smell better than any other hoya you've experienced???? Describe the scent, pleeease....
Hmmmm after contemplating the smell...a bit like wintergreen with a hint of rose and a bit of violets...not pretentious at all. Not bold - wafting. I think of it as a 'deep' fragrance rather than a light citrusy one...
It is 8a.m. and the flowers are 'lighting' up the whole porch!!! Can smell them all the way over here 25' away!
Wow...now they not only smell like heaven, but they are LUMINOUS too. Well, I gotta have one of those. It is now on my want list, so start taking cuttings as soon as it is done blooming.
Marcy
OH That might be my new favorite hoya!! Better start me a basket!! LOL
Karen
It's beautiful Carol and I love the leaves.
Sandy
Yep! Sounds just like something I absolutely must have! Start those cuttings....
UPDATE: The flowers are STILL fresh and STILL fragrant!!! Now...those are long lasting flowers!!
