I got this ee last year, and wintered it over. I am just curious if any of you know what it is. Is it hardy for me in zone 7-8? Thanks.
Can you identify?
Sheila, could it be Colocasia Fontanesii? alice
It does look alot like it, but the underside is more grayish. It also has a wet, shiney look. I guess it could be the growing conditions maybe. Thanks for the input.
From your picture, it appears that the leaf upper is a uniform green and that the leaf is divided at the point where the stem attaches to the leaf. If it was C. Fontanesii the stem would attach further away from the edge of the leaf and the contrasting veins and mid ribs should be visible through the leaf.
My guess is that your plant is likely Alocasia plumbea. Here is a link to a picture and the description from Agri-starts.

Thanks Canna. I do believe you are right. The Colocasia Fontanesii does attach lower unlike the plumbea. The color of the underside is that silvery-I thought grayish wet look just as the desciption at agri starts suggested. I was really hoping it would be hardy here, but its hardiness starts at zone 9. Oh well it is beautiful so in the greenhouse it goes again =).
