My H. glabra finally bloomed, but...

Trelleborg, Sweden

Hi all!

Lately there have been several hoyas in my collection that have bloomed for the first time!

First my NOID (chuniana) and today my glabra decided to open its flowers. I was surprised that the buds were white but figured what the...

When they opened up this morning I knew immediately that it wasn't glabra.

Photo of my plant can be found here: http://www.myhoyas.com/Hoya%20glabra%20hela.htm

Photo of one leaf can be found here: http://www.myhoyas.com/Hoya%20glabra%20leaf.htm

Flowers are enclosed. They smell just wonderful! Sweet and like chewing gum according to my boyfriend. We can't stop sniffing it!

Anyone have any idea what this hoya really is?

Forgot to say that the leaves are big. The one in the photo is 6 inches long.

They don't look familiar to me...

Go on WHAT to compare? It's blank...

I figured out that it was on your compendium page you wanted me to compare, but I already did that this afternoon. Nothing!

You don't happen to know what the flowers of H. citrina and/or H. citrina var. paracitica looks like?

I'm thinking it could be one of them. Botanova has citrina described as having white flowers and the leaves look a lot like glabra. But then on Ted Greens site he has H. citrina looking like my big leaf H. pentaphlebia (looks just like yours, Carol)...

THIS IS WAY TOO CONFUSING FOR ME and all I wanted was a flowering H. glabra.

Goodnight from Sweden

Beautiful Christine. Now I wonder if my glabra is really a glabra. Hasn't bloomed for me, so I will have to wait and see. My leaves look just like yours. I purchased mine through a person well known for mislabeling hoya's. I thought out of all of them I purchased, the glabra was the only correct labeled one. Hmmmm. have to wait and see.

You know...I really like the H. pottsii!!! There are 'those' who call it a 'dawg' and think it is boring...but I don't think it is boring, I like the leaves and their variations and think the flowers are TERRIF!!! Heck...you could have your house choke with hoyas and have only H. pottsii!!!!

Hope this works, Christina.....

Nope, not the one! I have received an answer from Botanova and they seem to have mixed up citrina and glabra when they sent me the glabra. Mystery solved - it's Botanovas citrina that I have. It smells so lovely - it's definately a fragrance favourite!

I don't mind pottsii either, but I know this one isn't one. I got it from Botanova and they don't have more than one alternative to what it could be. If their citrina is correct - who knows?!!
