new to this forum, with a question re: H. Coccineus

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

i just bought one of these online and it is arriving next week. i have combed my books, but can't come up with the answer to my question, which is: do they completely die down in the winter or will i still have leaves. i'm in zone 9, but i don't know if that even matters! thanks, debi

I am in zone 8 and figure I'll lose all the leaves, but it is supposed to be hardy perennial so should come back out. This is the first year I have planted this one. I have another hardy hibiscus that sheds all of its leaves, but comes back each year.

thanks for your input. i guess i will have to wait and see, but i would suspect i will lose the leaves. are you cutting yours back? do you have yours growing in full sun? thanks, debi

Mine is growing in full sun. I don't plan to cut back any until spring, other than small cuttings to try to root.
