Black Walnut?

Plano, TX

Does anyone know where I could visit a mature black walnut tree or trees here in the Dallas or hopefully Plano area? The nuts in their green rinds are about to fall, or are falling (not sure due to the heat when this happens here), and I would like to collect some for a project.

really? they make a huge mess to get to the nut... that said the big stands I know of are all in OK.

Do you know of a botanical garden nearby? Might be a specimen there. Contact Master Gardeners or Neil Sperry's organization in Dallas for suggestions. http://www.neilsperry.com/

You might want to check in the parks around white rock lake they have a lot of nature up there and might be the closest.

Over in the Edible Fruits and Nuts Forum, RainGazer is expecting a bumper crop of black walnuts. You might be able to get what you need there.

Hi and apologies for my lack of a response to your question - I didn't see it until today.

While most folks would use black walnut for food or dye, I made a special wash out of it with the purpose of drawing on it's allelopathic qualities to help me end a relationship. Just a little help from my botanical friends!

Hopefully you aren't talking of a human relationship with someone allergic to walnuts!! LOL!
