My 2 year old daughter found these guys just a little bit ago and I want to try to keep them and let them hatch out. What will they be? I am assuming they will be butterflies but what kind? They have little spikey looking things all over them and are black with a few stripes on them that are a orange color.
What will these guys turn into??
*Bump*
HI,
We did this this summer. Check out this link.

You can click on differant names and identify it. I tried but could see the detail in the pictures. It's specific to GA moths and butterflies.
We found a swallow tail this summer and glad we looked it up. If you want to have a great time and watch with your family as it grows, you'll have to know what specific food it will eat. These little guys can be very picky eaters! Also, there are web sights that will give you suggestions on how to best get ready for the next stage.
I can't tell what the caterpillars are, but I am interested in your Boston in the background. Got another picture of the dog?

Kozmo is BEAUTIFUL. What a good looking Boston.
My pooeys are Tipzy (below on the right) and Hurshell, (on the left). Tip is 10 and Hursh is 8. I rescued him from a puppy mill, where he was a stud dog. He's retired now and living better than most humans! LOL (And now you know where my user name comes from.)
Thanks for sharing the pics. Like I do with mine, I want to kiss that spot on top of his head. :>)
Oh, and actually, those caterpillars look a lot like one I found on my firecracker plant. I never did get a "for sure" positive ID, but I THINK it was some type of tropical Buckeye flutterby. If you know what plant your daughter found them on, that might help ID them. I've got some more links for you below...

your babies are sooo cute! I love them! Have you ever been over to check the best boston terrier website ever it is at...... http://www.woofboard.com
Everyone there loves their BTs sooo much and there are some halariouse people there! Lots of people are involved in rescue just like you have done....there are a bunch of new puppies and older guys to. I think there is over 1,000 members. Go check it out it is lots of fun! Just dont get addicted! Between davesgarden and woof I dont know how I get anything done!
About the catapillars I let them go because I didnt know what to feed them and thought they would be better off outside.
I'll check it out.
I bet those caterpillars became bird food.
I'll be looking for you! My name on the board is Mom2Kozmo :)
Can't see the cats well enough to know... those dogs crack me up! Their faces are just so funny, in the cute kind of way! I have cats, but have always thought I might like one of those, except that every one I've ever seen has had WAY more energy than me!
That's true konkrete -- my two dogs are 8 and 10 and you'd never know they're senior citizens. Still very bouncy, like Tigger. Whoo-hoo-hoo!
OMG Sooooo much energy!
Yep! And now you know why my screen name is what it is. I always say this: 20 pounds of dog, but 50 pounds of attitude. They are fearless and have no idea they're not bull mastiffs! LOL
I knew it! That must be why I'm a "cat person". They are much slower and don't make me look lazy. LOL
