For the longest time, I was reading various forums on DG and everyone was always talking about HD. I'm thinkin'..."HD? Whaaat is thaaat?" Then I ran across a thread that said Home Depot and I went "OOOOH!" duh
Not having a HD in my town, I made a detour to one last weekend when I was in a neighboring city with my daughter shopping for Homecoming dresses (oh boy was she thrilled. ha ha)
Anyways....I think HD is my new best friend! They had LOTS of great plants ~ especially hoyas. I found a "Hoya Bilobatta" that I immediately latched on to. I have several hoyas already but not this one (see picture). What can you all tell me about it? Pictures of blooms?
Thanks so much!
Hoya Bilobatta
Hi Betsy....how large are the leaves? Is it an Exotic Angel plant? EA is Famous (infamous) for mislabeling their plants...and H. bilobata is not one in "general circulation"...which doesn't mean it isn't a treasure and fabulous find...!!! Congrats!
Carol
I have a H. bilabata>>>> does not look anything like yours!!
Last year they were labeling tsangii with that label. That looks like what it is to me.
Sorry to say it but it is not H. bilobata it is H. tsangii. Take a lokk at my webpage www.sitascorner.se
Have a nice weekend
Rosita
You can also see my website where I have several photos of H. tsangii: http://www.myhoyas.com/Hoya%20tsangii%20min.htm

You are obviously correct ~ it IS tsangii ~ at least as best as I can tell. Thank you all for your input and your links. I just sent an email to Exotic Angel explaining what happened and let them know their carelessness in labeling their hoyas is unacceptable. I also let them know they have a reputation of being "(infamous) for mislabeling their plants". [good way to put it, Carol!!] Even though I didn't have tsangii and am happy with the hoya itself, I just think its that Exotic Angel can get away with that.
Ah well, chalk it up to 'live and learn', right? I sure am glad I have my fellow DGer's to provide the CORRECT INFORMATION. Again, thanks to you all.
FYI H. tsangii is an incorrect name for that one, it should be labeled as DS-70
Don't feel bad, you are not alone. I am a newbie to Hoyas. I just bought a plant labeled Hoya Greenleaf. Only to be told it was a Rhipsalis.
At first I was going to keep it. I think now I will take it back. Lowes and H D should be more careful with the vendors and the labeling.
DS-70 is what I thought it was. I have one and have changed names 3 times, from H. Bilobata to H. Tsangii and now DS-70. What ever it is, I love the plant. The flowers are fragrant and it is a good bloomer. Betsy, you have a nice basket! Enjoy! I have mine hanging in a tree and it wants to climb the tree.
Oh great, another name change. I was sent H. tsangii by my sister, SandyC, then while my other sister was in N. Carolina she had found H. bilobata and called me to see if I had it. Well long story short I ended up with it, and it was H. tsangii. From HD. What I can't figure out is why HD will carry H. carnosa from EA, but then they say EA will not ship Hoya's into Arizona. O.K. I'm done complaining. Betsy nice plant, it does bloom well and grows fast, for me anyway.

Are there realllllly many plants that we don't want??
I am a true sucker for anything that blooms and smells good. Come to think of it, they don't have to bloom or smell good. According to a good friend "Hoyas can be addictive can't they?" I have several, I don't really know the name of any but am trying to learn. On a nice cool evening when they are all in bloom and the air is heavy with the scent, I really don't care about the name.
This is one of my unknown Hoyas...Don't you love her???
Krimson Princess : http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/57702/index.html
Thank you for the ID....So hard to tell, the leaves are curled almost like the Hindu Rope. Stems are burgandy. I'll post pictures when she blooms.
I have had my krimson princess for along time, it never developed any bloom spurs. Went to HD a couple of days ago and found one with 3 bloom spurs on it. Yes I had to buy it. Had to pick alot of white leaves off of it though. Looks like it has already bloomed for the year. Does this one smell like the regular carnosa?
They are all so pretty. This one hasn't bloomed yet. It looks like it could have the starts of some buds.
HI Betsy...being the first poster after your question, I didn't want to tell you it wasn't H. bilobata!! Milan is correct: you plant is neither H. tsangii nor H. burtoniae (another name used to sell this hoya)...it is H. sp. DS-70. One day, perhaps that will change too!
I think that the H. carnosa cultivars have been around for so long, some of them are seedlings passed off as the cultivar name but carrying different traits like leaf twisting, shape etc. I don't question, for a minute, that they ALL could be clones of the originals...which doesn't make them any less attractive and just makes it hard to ID them. There were a couple called H. cv. Holliana and H. cv. Sherri (sp?)....miniatures, it seems from the original sizes. Heck...if you like them....enjoy. No problem....and hopefully if trading you will note the differences from the 'real' one.... I also wonder if there is a real one?
Carol
Carol~
You mean if I were to trade cuttings of my "Bilobatta" I should make sure to call it DS-70? I have already thrown out the EA tag that said "Hoya Bilobatta" and I have written a label DS-70. I hope that's what you mean. =0)
Thanks again, all!
Betsy
Yes, Betsy...even if you write on the tag, Suspected to be DS - 70 and explain to the person WHY, it is better than passing on a totally mislabeled Hoya. Many people ignore the "?" and put any old name....so 'chain of custody' is important. Believe me...I never thought it was until I tried to trace the chain of custody to find out what a hoya really was.... Does this make sense?
Carol
Carol~
Yep, I got it....and will do. thanks. =0)
