I did it!! I did it!!

About a month ago, my peaches and cream started blooming at the same time Charles Grimaldi was blooming like crazy. I removed the anthlers from a couple CG flowers and pollinated all of the flowers. I didn't think any of them took until I saw this! I went running into the house and grabbed my partner who was thrilled to see the pods. This is someone who doesn't get excited about too much in the garden. I'm hoping he'll catch the "brug bug" some day. (On a side note, we got engaged this summer :) ).

How long does it take for pods to mature? This gal will get a nice spot in a sunny window to encourage her to keep developing her pods. Does anyone know if peaches and cream has ever been hybridized with CG before?

Congratulations on your pods and your engagement. How exciting! When is the wedding date?

I do not know if any one has used CG. I know lots of people have tried to get variegated seedlings from Maya. Unfortunately, from what I read, they come out with no chlorophyll at all and soon die. P &C is not that easy to grow for a lot of people from what I read, so I do not know how many crosses have been made with that one at all.

Has anyone gotten viable green seedlings from a variegated Mom? Or a variegated one?

Well, if not, you at least have the technique down and can now make lots of pods! It usually takes about 3 months though most of mine this summer seem to be taking 4 to 5 months. I think if is ripening over winter it will take even longer. GOOD LUCK!!

Thank you, Kell :) No date set yet, but both sets of families are very happy.

As far as the pods go, this will be a great learning experience even if the seeds aren't viable or the pods don't ripen.

I wonder if CG is not commonly used since it has suaveolens genes in it. Seems like CG is a hodgepodge of different species.
