CLOSED: Anyone want Queen Crape Myrtle?

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

I have a huge Queen Crape that blooms light pink. It's sending out volunteers. Anyone interested? I'd love daylilies or another trade but will send for postage if enough left over.

I would love to have a couple of volunteers if you have them. Sending you a d-mail. :)

I'd like to try some. I have stuff to trade. I've already dug a bunch of siberian iris (bluish purple), but I've got other stuff. Are you looking for anything in particular?

just checked out your trade list and see that you are interested in salvia. I have some beautiful honeymelon sage with leaves that smell like melon, and bright red flowers that the hummingbirds really go for. I noticed today that some branches had rooted. It's not dormant yet, but I know I'll have some of this to trade it you are interested.

Also have some tall bearded iris that are yellow and brown. I'll put photos on next post.

This is the honeymelon sage from last year, when it was new. This year it is huge and covered in blooms.
Sorry, I can't find a photo of the iris, thought I thought I had a photo of everything. It's a tall bearded variety, pale yellow on top and a pale brown on the bottom. The colors are soft.

Hi everyone,

I'm planning on digging this morning and will get back to you on how many I can send. One clump has gotten huge! I hope I can get it out in one piece.

Pixydish and Marclay I'm concerned you might be too cold for this. Please check your zones to make sure these grow in your area.

Hi guys,

I found a pic of the blooms. The tree is on the left side with pink blooms.

CountryBumpkin, is this the one you're looking for?

Remember this thing grows taller than a 2 story house, so you'll need lots of room.

Here's a better shot of the trunk..........

I think you are right. It's another myrtle we can grow here. Rats.

I have done some research and found the following:

"Queen crape myrtle is a similar but much larger and more tropical relative (than the common one). The most common flower color is purple, but a nice pink form is sometimes seen. The tree can grow to 30 feet or more, and the big leaves turn an attractive red in late fall. It is deciduous for a shorter time than the regular crape myrtle but does not flower as long. Bloom time is usually from May to September."

I have seen the zones for this listed several times as 10b-11, though I'm in 9b and it does just fine. I also found out today that the volunteers I have are actually suckers growing from roots. They are tough to get out. No wonder I haven't been able to kill them!

Because this has turned out to be a little touchy, with the zones and root cuttings, I'd like to do this purely for postage rather than a trade. That way if they don't grow well for either reason you will only be out the $3.85. How does that sound to everyone?

Please re-post and let me know if you still want to give this a try. I have the root sections hydrating now and they all have a nice set of shoots on them.

Hey! I just thought, I can send you all seeds too! If you like I'll do seeds for a SASE. I want to make sure you are happy and dealt with generously. I'm new to trading, (can you tell?), and want to do it "right".

I will love some for postage and some seeds also .Thanks
let me know how much and where to send

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Hi emh48,

I'll send out a box to you tomorrow. I think it'll be about $4. I'm putting in a large ziplock bag of seed and seed pods. I'm told you keep them in the bag and shake it every now and then to get the seeds to fall out. From what I've read they germinate very easily. I'm so glad to have something you've really wanted. Isn't it a wonderful feeling to be excited about a successful quest? Please send me a pic to show me the new home after you've gotten them planted.
