I just got my first hoya in a recent trade. It is Tsangii. Can anyone give me some growing tips on this plant? Should it go in a hanging basket....I'm assuming? It looks as though it roots at the nodes....and that little roots have already begun......I'm wondering if I should use the "wrap around" technique when I plant it, so that the pot fills out quicker......thoughts? Thanks. Jenny (who is so excited to finally own a HOYA!) :O)
My first hoya.....help! LOL
When you pot it up keep it evenly moist. Don't let it dry out. Hanging basket is good.
Thanks NightBloomer. :O) Any thoughts on it rooting at the nodes? Do hoyas take alot of sun? I'll be growing it indoors in my sunroom. Jenny
Check the rooting posts on the forum. Everyone had their own way and some work better than others with different types of hoya. I just started trying the plastic bag rooting method.
Keep it warm. Zone 5a will be too cold for outside growing once the nightime temperature starts dropping. In general, and there are exceptions you will learn, temps above 60 are best.
My H. tsangii is in the shade.
Lots of opinons and good advice to follow from other growers I'm sure.
It will root at the nodes, yes....

Thanks Susan. I'll check out those posts you mentioned. I'll be growing it indoors anyway, so that isn't a problem. :O) At least, until my sunroom gets too full. LOL Thanks so much for your thoughts. :O) Jenny
Your hoya IS fairly easy to grow (sorry Susan...do yu want to try again?)...it wants really fast draining soil and lots of water...shade, but the leaves turn a wondrful red in bright light... This is a good hoya to start in a plastic bag (see the other post on here by Awanda and others about that process)....
