Is Begonia Evansiana same as Begonia Grandis?

New Providence, NJ(Zone 6a)

I am trying to find out some hardy begonia for zone 6a. Some lists Begonia Evansiana also hardy too. Is this one same as Begonia Grandis? Also is there any hardy begonia too?

Thanks,

Hi
I used to work at Logee's and brought this same question up to Byron Martin(owner and breeder of Begonias) he said "yes". My argument is: I used to work at a botanical garden in the Midwest(zone 5-6) and had B grandis growing in the garden and it was huge 18+ inches some yrs(in shade)! Honestly it was very beautiful. He said neither of them get that tall and that they were the same.
So sorry to confuse you even more. But just thought I would post what I was told.

I believe the names are used synonimously and that my very own grandis gets over 2 foot here in the South.

Chicory,

When I bought my hardy begonia (Begonia Grandis) last year, it was somewhere 18 inches tall. This year, I got all the seedlings (I think at least 30 of them). They are all from one plant. They are only 12 inches tall. Most of them have flowers there too. I don't know if they will get bigger next year.

yes it is one and the same...mostly used now is grandis. Sutherlandii is said to be moderately hardy but I have not found it so in Baltimore.

Thanks everyone for the information. I will start to collect the white hardy one next year.
