Im just going crazy about cannas.
A friend brought me back a sellection of seeds in packets from Costa Rica , most are for trees but one pack is for "LUCIFER'S TORCH" Canna indica. I got so excited when i realised i had some here just waiting for me
Does anybody know about growing them in zone 11 or 11b. How long would they take to grow from seed ? I have not yet tried growing from seeds and i know it will be a project but I love all the pictures im seeing here of cannas and anything that likes full sun I know I can keep happy.

"LUCIFER'S TORCH". Canna indica
Canna are VERY easy from seed! They will bloom in as little as a few months. I have not grown the particular one you listed, but have grown many others. I use a nail genie which is like a dremel to sand a small hole in the seed until I see a white spot. Just don't sand where the eye (little bump) is located. You can then either go ahead and plant them or soak them in water (add a bit of peroxide) to speed up germination. They will take on water and sprout in just a few days. I usually put them in a shallow container until they have a leaf just so I can keep an eye on them. You can toss a handful of them in a something like a butter bowl (which I cut down to just a couple of inches tall). Good luck!
