My bigest burg just wilted in two days. What is wrong? I hope it is not a virus and will all of my others die too? It is wet so that is not the trouble. Thank you so much. Joan
My bigest plant just wilted. Help!
Could it be "too" wet? We lose more from overwatering than underwatering. Have you looked with a magnifier to see if there are small bugs on it? Sort of hard to diagnose without being there.
Mary
Mary, thank you so much. Maggi e-mailed me and said the same thing. It was getting so dry each day that I put a sacer under it. The red spider is so bad this year that I do not have very many good bugs to eat the bad bug because of having to spray. Will the plant live or do I just through it out? I do not what I would do with out Dave's Garden to help me. I am new at burgs and I just hope I learn before I kill them off. Thank you again Mary,
Joan
Hi Joan,
They're pretty tough. My first and current favorite survived an infestation such as I'd never seen before, lost all it's leaves and then survived and bloomed again. In some ways they're pretty finicky, but there's also a toughness about them that lets them survive the blows from mother nature. I've been gardening for awhile, but I'm still learning when it comes to Brugs.
Mary
If you can take cuttings of it I would if it does not perk up. Sometimes a fungus will attack it at the soil line and will kill the plant, but if you are quick enough you can take cuttings and they will be ok.

Hi Joan. I have good friend who lives in Tyler. You are in a rose town. You lucky duck. I agree with Mary, these are hardy plants and have the will to live. Very forgiving of our sins.
Have you fertilized it or used a systemic on it just before it wilted?
Take it out of the sun if the sun is strong to reduce its stress.
If you really think it is due to overwatering. I would take it out its pot and inspect the roots. If they are rotting, cut off all the bad ones till you get to nice white ones. Then cut the top growth the same amount. So if you cut off half the roots, cut off half the top. If yours is a bush, try to leave some Ys so it will still flower. If a standard, just cut part of the canopy off, not below the first Y. Try to leave some nodes.
If the roots are not rotted, I would still take it out of the sun. I would leave it out of the pot with newspaper over the roots to protect them from light. This will help them dry out. Once dry, put it back in the pot. Keep it out of direct sun until it recovers. You may still have to cut back some of the top growth if it remains droopy. But they recover and grow so quickly, do not be too sad about it.
GOOD LUCK!!
Hi You all, I have done every thing you all said and the plant should feel well loved. Before Dave my plants would just die but now there is hope for me and them. When I pulled it out of the pot it was very wet but the roots all looked good. Do I let it get real dry before I put it back in the pot with out the saucer under it?
I waited to answer hoping I had something to tell you all and I have good news. The plant has tiny leaves on it and they are very green and not wilted. There are all so tiny buds all over so should I pick them off to help the plant. The dirt is still damp but I will wait for one you to tell me when to put it back. Should I pick the buds off?
Kell, I had not spread it or fertilized it any more then the others. I have had a big time problem with red spider so I have spread a lot. I think the red spiders think it is candy. Since I did not have to cut off the roots should I still cut the plant back.?
I love living in Tyler with all the roses. I belong to the M.G.'s and we have three gardens in the big rose garden so if you ever get over here give me a call and I will give you a tour of all the gardens.
You have some wonderful gardens were you are. My son and daughter-in-law live in L.A. and when we were there I saw my first burg at the Nelson Art Gallery. I could not believe what I was seeing so I have been clumsily trying to grow them. Thanks to you three I may begin to understand them. I am sure I will ask some more question.
Joan
I will give you a call when I get to Tyler. I keep saying I will go but it is always so hot there. I would wilt. LOL
My friend there in Tyler is growing lots of brugs. You guys should start a brug club!!
Kell, I would love to meet your friend. If she would like to get together you could e-mail me on my e-mail here at Dave's. I do not know how to use it very well but I can learn.
Late Sept. or early Nov. but the spring is the best.
I have to tell you again that Sexy Lady is outstanding.
