Hello-we made it

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Just to let all my friends and gardeners on DG know that we made it through the storm and had some damage but are ok. Just go electricity yesterday and still have no internet. Am at library checking emails. We had 100-110 miles ph. winds that lasted for hours. Our area is severely damaged and 40% of people still do not have power and some do not have water in the small outlying areas. We count ourselves lucky.

Beleive it or not my greenhouse made it with trees hanging above and falling all around. Told my husband that I am posting picture of his design on the internet. It is amazing how something of plastic can make it and building and trees didn't.

Many of my neighbors trees are now in my yard. My shady backyard is not in the blazing sun all day. Many of my plants were under large trees that fell and have been diging them out and trying to save as much as possible. Almost all my shade trees are gone. Some landed on the house but the damage can be repaired. The hoop house right next to greenhouse did not make it and all my brugs that were in bud are now naked. I will post pictures as soon as internet gets back up and running.

I hope everyone else is ok that were in the storms path. Thanks for all the kind thoughts and calls. Phone is now working.

Hi Barb. I know I just emailed you back but I want to say again I am so glad you are OK and all can be repaired. I was so worried when we didn't hear about you. Then Trish let us know and I was so relieved. Take great care of yourself now Barb, the tendency will be to overdue.

All my sister's huge trees came down also. Even a 100 year old magnolia. I wonder if any would live if you could prop them back up. I know when I was a child my father did that to one that went over in a hurricane and it lived. I guess things are so devastated this would be to hard to orchestrate. I wonder what would be a fast growing umbrella type tree you could get in fast.

Please keep in touch when you can.

It's wonderful that you made it through without injury, but sad that you (and so many others) have so much work ahead of you before things get back to normal. I will be watching for pictures when you get your internet back and have time to post them.

So good for people to post this for us. Glad you got through! God has a plan for all of us - I've learned that through near death a few times already. Just wish I knew what my purpose in life is supposed to be. I have not yet been shown and turn 40 this month. Whatever it is, I hope He doesn't waste much more time. I don't want to go through another tragedy or anymore pain.

Hope you have yours and you continue with it.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm glad you are okay Barb. Most plants can be replaced when need be. Wish we could all be there to help you, Kay, and Donna do all the necessary clean up. I'm just so glad that you are all okay. I've thought about you all a lot over the last two and a half weeks. If there is anything I can do to help, please don't hesitate to let me know.
