i have a seed pod forming but i am wanting to prune this plant, will it hurt the pod if if i cut the branch off and repot it?
seed pod question
I'm pretty sure that the seedpod will keep forming, but it might do so at a slower rate. It takes a huge amount of energy to form seeds so rooting may be hindered and occur very slowly if at all. I don't believe it is recommended to do this, but I hope some others will weigh in if they have an opinion on this.
thanks, i think i will hope for the best. at least i have another 2 months to decide what i'm going to do with it.
If possible I would wait till the seed pod ripens before I would cut but that's me.
Roger
That's good advice, Roger. I forget how long it takes for a pod to ripen. Is it six months?
i let my plumies hibernate all winter in a closet, so they are dried up, would that make any difference to cutting back?
I don't think you have to cut yours back to store it during dormancy, but I don't think the pod will continue to develop during dormancy either. It will probably fall off, or it might stay on and continue to develop when it emerges from dormancy.
Why let it g dormant?
If you want to see the pod develop keep the plant in your house in a warm, sunny location.
