Vireya fan

Key West, FL(Zone 11)

Hello

My name is Neil ,

living in Key West Zone 11b and I am pretty new to tropical gardening . Although I moved to the Keys 10 years ago from Ireland I have had my own garden to play with only in the last few years. At first we had someone do the design for us but as it grew ( boy did it grow) I strarted to get interested in the garden myself and have had my share of successes and failures.

I have many of the usual suspects in my tropical garden but have fallen for Vireyas (aka Tropical rhododendrons) Amazing plants, needs lots of TLC kind of like bonsaii for the garden. I was wondering if anybody else in the group had any.

Im far from experimenting with any hydrids or seeds, but I did just manage to get my first plants to grow from cuttings on my persian shield.

This was my first home grown bloom on a vireya Orange Flambe

Im learning lots just going through the posts.

Thanks
Neil

The Vireya Orange Flambe is about 36" high with an upright bushy growth. The bloom is about 6"inches wide.
Opens very slowly so its kool to watch it develop.

I dont have any rooted cuttings , however I do have a bloom opening today , but they take a while to come out, i will leave it on the plant to develop seeds, probably a couple of weeks. The first ones I get will be yours.

Neil

Keep watching and Ill post some pictures , its called 'Haloed Gold' .
