If I cut off bromeliad pups before they have their own roots, will they form them on their own if planted? I would hate to lose them by being too anxious. I have some that are about half as big as the 'Momma", but they are not rooted.
Question- can Bromeliad Pups root themselves?
yes they do - some not as easily as others. I keep the potting medium barely moist and keep it in a humid area with less light than the parent plant. I usually don't remove them until they are bigger, though - about 2/3.
Thanks so much, I was hoping for that answer 0:)
KEYRING is right, wait until they have about five (5 ) leaves

I just leaned or put my bromiads in the tree besides our house and they grow like crazy. No soil or anything. I have one called Summer Torch and boy is it pretty. I will post a picture sunday when my husband gets home. I dont know how to put it on the forum. They have real big flowers also. Dont fertilize either. Thought I would tell you. Gave my mom some of another kind in Miss and she growes them in pots of soil and grow really good and spread fast too. Lots of pups.Fran
Fran...I've set 3 different types of Broms in a pile throughout the years, and never got back to them....they just took off where they were, no planting, no roots in soil, no anything...I had one group leaning against a tree, and they are now all the way around, and probably 3 feet up it. That type is painted fingernail, which if fairly common here in Florida, but they grow no matter what you do.
