Canna intrigue hybrids

Louisville, KY

I think a lot of you might be familiar with the Canna intrigue. Here are some hybrids I have made. These are a bit harder to sell to the mass market. But I don't breed just for money I love a certain look sometime even if no one else does. The leaves on this plant are amazing and I figured getting some nice looking flowers with that foliage should be nice. Most of these plants will probably only make it to collectors and hobbiest. Let me know what you think. I should have them availible next season I am hoping.

This first one is called Canna William shatner made it two years ago. Tall narrow purple leaves and bright streaked orange flower.

I have about 3 hybrids of this dark purple form with bright neon pink flowers. Non are named yet and I have not yet picked out which one is best. But here is a pic of what one looks like.

Both are beautiful; I especially like the dark leaved varieties and pink ones with dark leaves are a little harder to aquire(pricier at least). Your pink one brings to mind tropical sunsets and fruity mixed drinks! So glad to see such great work being done right here in Ky.

Thanks for sharing, Neal.

Your cannas are beautiful. I love the dark foliage with orange flowers. dixie

I love that you named it something more distinctive, William Shatner, easier to remember than something describing the color which can get lost amid all the other variety names.
The deep purple foliage is especially attractive. I am new to collecting cannas, just have a few super store bought ones and am always attracted to the deep foliage ones but have yet to see one like these colors of course. I just purchased a book on cannas too, The Gardeners Guide to Growing Cannas by Ian Cooke. Man, should have stopped by your place when I was there in July had I known about you, I was in Cincy and then drove down to Paris one afternoon to see a daylily hybridizer. So close!

Thanks for all the positive feed back. It's good to see the ones people like it helps me understand which ones diserve names and which I should propagate more of. I hope to have a online store in the spring with new canna hybrids form the past few years availible.
Also looking for good names to go with the cannas.
