Rooting Question

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on rooting a variegated Multiflora cutting. I understand they're a bit more difficult than most other kinds. I don't want to lose it. I'm rooting some other kinds in ziploc bags but it seems to me I read somewhere that multiflora don't root as well using that method. Thanks.

Being variegated, I would keep it out of bright light...in loose medium with ample water. Warm too! Lucky!!! I am looking for one of those!!!

Sandy, I hate to sound like a worn out record, but, I have great luck rooting the Variegated multiflora in water, which I added 10 drops of Hormex per gallon. I find it easy to root.
The flecked leaf multiflora is another story. I have a heck of a time rooting it. I have had my plant for 2 years and it is just now starting to really thrive and I am hopeful that I will have better luck rooting it now that it is stronger and healthier.

I have it in a jar of water with a drop of Thrive Alive B1 mixed in. It hasn't wilted so maybe I'll leave it and see how it does. If it doesn't start getting roots I'll put it in a loose medium. Thanks for the help. I was a bit afraid to ask since this question has probably been asked many times before. So is it easy to grow as well as root? I hadn't heard of the flecked leaf one until I did a search on how to root this one.

You're trying to find one Carol? I assumed you'd be able to get just about any kind really easily. Somebody will probably send you a piece.

Hey Sandy, no problem asking questions even if they have been asked before!
The var. multiflora grows is very easy to grow IMHO. The only thing I do differently is to feed it with either a no nitrogen or low nitrogen fertilizer. I have not had a problem with the plant trying to revert to all green leaves and it blooms constantly in spring and summer. I feel sure you will be quite pleased with your plant!

Thanks, I'll have to make a note of that information about the fertilizer....if I can get my cutting to grow. I have my fingers crossed. lol I never considered that it could revert to all green. The leaves are so pretty...they remind me of my Peaches and Cream brug.

Oops, one of the top new leaves fell off this morning. That can't be a good sign.
