My Jean Pasco is growing well and has 'Y'ed several times, but still no blooms. I finally took a closer look and found that the itty bitty buds turn yellow and fall off when they are about 1/8" long. What can I do to stop this? I want to see flowers on this plant. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Buds falling off
Has it been very hot and dry? I am just now seeing BIG buds on my Jean Pasko. They dried up and fell off all summer, it was in the 90s', with no rain here.
Hot and Texas are synonymous. Not only is it hot, but we haven't had any rain so the humidity has been low. Could that be the problem?
We had hot and dry all summer, mine kept dropping buds at least 3 times, now they will be blooming soon, if something else unforseen doesn't happen!
Good luck with yours.
My Equador Pink lost 3/4 of its buds in the last few weeks. It's been in the 80's with very low humidity and hasn't really rained since June. I noticed the buds really started to drop after I hadn't watered for a couple of days.
Veronica, So sorry to hear this has happened. It's so upsetting when this happens.
I have had this happen in the past and just recently. My whiskers was loaded with tiny buds and then suddenly they began to yellow and fall off. This time of year the moths eggs that have been laid on the plants hatch and those tiny little cats seem to like the stems of the buds. They munch on the stem and then they wither away.
This is from my past experience and you may want to get a magnifying glass out and give your plant an inspection. They may possibly be the culprit.
Best of luck to you. JP has wonderful blooms!
Thanks for the suggestion, Kin. I'll take a magnifying glass out tomorow and check for caterpillars.
I've had a few blooms on EP, but the pollen wasn't fluffy - it was all dried out. This is going to be remembered as the bad brug year, amongst other things.
You are right on, Kin! I have those little cats everywhere. BT time tomorrow!
I had18 huge buds on my ecuador pink. I had detected spider mites on my plants so i sprayed with a systemic (ortho). Within a few days i was down to 10. then 8. then 5. Today i have my one and only bloom. I didn't think that the spraying would affgect the buds. I sprayed in the early evening so it wasn't the sun. Learned my lesson. If i see bugs and i have a plant that has buds on it i will separate it from the others and spray it when it is done flowering.
At least I have one bloom....

I've been using Bayer's 2-in-1 and haven't had much of a problem with spider mites, but it doesn't work with grasshoppers (who have bigger mouths) or with those tiny green caterpillars. They both can do a lot of damage in a very short time. I've found what's left of some buds on the ground.
