I have been told this is a member of the Plumeria family. They flower white and can get quit tall. I have seen them up to 15'.
Do any of you have a clue as to it's name?
Thanks
Plumeria family
It's beautiful and is indeed a plumeria. It's called Plumeria pudica, and it has white flowers which have no fragrance at all. Here's a link: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/93637/index.html
That's it. Thanks so much.
My pleasure:-) As an aside, Luc, the owner of Florida Colors nursery, has just successfully crossed Plumeria pudica with Plumeria rubra, and the result is a light pink flower with a light scent and leaves like P. pudica. The seedling's name is "La Florida." I have two seedlings of the seedling "La Florida," and Luc is hoping that successive generations have more color and more scent. Already, the tiny seedlings of the seedling "La Florida" are showing those famous leaves. It will be interesting to see what flowers develop on these seedlings.
That sounds wonderful Clare. I will look him up and see if I can buy a few from him.
Thanks
Knot, here's his web site: http://www.floridacolors.com/ You may wish to call Carol and Luc at the telephone number listed on the web site because they have many more items for sale than is listed on their web site. They send out a published list each year of plumerias for sale, and maybe you can request that they send one to you.
I love the leaves on the p. pudica.
Pudica is probably the easiest to grow of all plumies.
It is commonly refered to as a wed lol!!
I had a 12 inch piece this spring that is now over 30 inches and has sprouted about 15 braches with 3 inflos on the main head lol!!
I do too, Nery. It's good to see you here. I've missed you!
Michael, Wow! That is a good grower. I've been tempted to get it, but it is disqualified because of the flower's lack of fragrance;-)
can't explain why I've been so quiet on this forum (to be quiet is NOT my nature, I've been told...)LOL
Lack of scent can be a blessing at times
Like in the house when you have allergies. ;)
Yes, that's true, Michael. I hope your allergies are not making these tough for you this year.
Wow, that's a gorgeous tree, Roger:-)
I have to say that every tree Roger has is likely to be gorgeous!! 8D
So true, and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy:-)
Thank You guys will have to take some pictures of the yard for you guys here.
Roger
Can't wait, Roger!
OOOH Boy!!!
Pictures!!!
Heh.... :p
Hey Roger,
Lady in Pink has an inflo!!
WOOT!
Michael,
I have some Lady in Pinks starting to bloom for the second time this year. Yours will probable be a bit smaller but will get larger for sure.
Roger
Shell bloom in the basement this October/November more than likely.
Hilo Beauty also has an inflo. ;)
2 of my seedlings have inflos at 7.5 months and 8 months ;)
A new record I understand?
Im very excited!
I will have around 8 or 9 blooming in my basement this winter LOL!!! 8D
I know they wont bloom true but it will be sooo cool!!!!
Michael
Congrats, Roger and Michael! I've got inflo's too on my Hilo Beauty, ACW, Intense Rainbow, Peachglow Shell, two unknowns, and on Phet Ratda, a seedling of Kukiat's that he sent to me. I must email him to tell him.
It was definitely fall weather today, but I am hopeful that we will have another month or so of warm weather so that I can see these inflo's bloom before cold weather comes.
Here is a picture of Kukiat's of Phet Ratda:
Clare,
Sounds like you will have lots of pictures to post soon we hope, right.
Roger
Clare, Congratulations on the Phet Rada and the others. The flower of Phet Rada is very large (4"+) in size. In fact I got it from a nursery near Bangkok. I really like your SCP.
Only a few trees in my garden are in bloom since central Thailand is in the mid. of rainy season. Most of the plumerias will start blooming again around November. However, some already have inflo. Below is an unknown that I just got about two weeks ago. It has very interesting colors and very thick petals.
Kukiat
Kukiat, I think your unknown should be a well known LOL!
Its gorgeous for sure!
Kukiat--that is super! I love it!
Brad
Wow, Kukiat! Michael is right that that unknown should be well-known! LOL! It's so beautiful. Each plumeria you post is more beautiful than the last one. I find myself tossing plain ones aside now that I have seen what incredible beauty a flower can possess. The best ones, it seems, are from Thailand. I love the fat petals of that one and how they curve under, and the colors are remarkable.
I will make sure that I send you a nice piece of SCP as soon as I get a little more growth on a branch. I am very excited about Phet Rada's inflo, and I will bring it inside if it starts to get too cold here. It feels like Fall weather now as it is starting to get colder at night. Nighttime temps are still in the 50's but barely so. Sometimes, we get an extended summer here with warm weather well into October, but it looks like that won't happen this year.
How come my unknowns are all ugly and your unknown's are so beautiful? LOL!
It seems that everybody like this one. I am sure it is going to be well known from now on. I got a tiny cutting (@4" long)of this one and I already grafted it onto a rootstock 11 days ago. I checked it this morning, it's doing just fine.
Clare, Thanks for the SCP. This is very nice of you. Clare, your unknown will be so beautiful since my unknown is going to be your unknown.
Kukiat
LOL! Kukiat, you make me smile from ear to ear! We better let that little four-inch one grow for a couple of years first:-) But you are such a dear. We are going to have to give you a title of "Master Grafter." I may have asked you this before, but I can't remember if I did or what the answer was: what are you using for rootstock?
Here are some of your lovely plumerias that came back grafted. These are the one-gallon ones, but the others are against my house in three-gallon or five-gallon containers. Some more are due to arrive this week. You can see the P. species one that you sent me. Luc made me two of them since the cutting was large enough to do so.
Clare, I don't think I am a Master at this point. Luc is definitely the one. He really did a good job on grafting. I think the one I sent you is P. alba.
Normally I use whatever available as a rootstock as long as it looks healthy. I prefer a young seedling (@1yr) since it is easy to cut and faster to take (as compared to the older one).
Kukiat
Thanks, Kukiat!
I would love a start of this one if anyone has one available. I am just starting with Plumerias, but maybe I would have something else to trade.
It never hurts to ask. ;)
Linda,
Which one are you looking for Pudica? If so send me your address and will get you a good rooted one almost 2 foot tall grow like weeds here.
Roger
Hi Roger, yes Pudica I would love to have. I'll send my address. Is there anything you would like as a trade? If not, I'll certainly pay shipping charges. Thanks so much
LindaSC

You should have gotten your box today for sure I hope.
Roger
