The monarchs are working their way through Arkansas now. Most are still in
the reproductive stage of their life. They are laying eggs on any milkweed
they can find. The monarchs that are going to come from this egg production
will join the main migration wave that will come through Arkansas around the
first of October.
I have some tagging kits for those that would like join in on the research
end of migration. The Monarch Watch organization out of the University Kansas
has put together a mini-kit with 5 tags in it. Send me your address, and I'll
send you a kit. If you want more tags - got to their webpage:
http://monarchwatch.org/
If you want to get involved, but don't want to tag - go to the Journey
North/South website and report your sightings.

Email about Migrating Monarch butterflies
Hi Jim..
Is the tagging kits just for Ark folks?? I have seen several Monarch arrive this past week in NW Florida. I've got all sorts of different milkweed to tempt the tummies of the cats.
Trish
Sorry I'm not Jim. I received this email FROM Jim :)
Update from Jim:
The main wave of migrating monarchs should start making their way though
Arkansas this weekend and continue through the first week of October.
I still have some tagging kits available if anyone would like to help with
the tagging effort. Just send me your name and address, and I will do the
rest.

I have cats inside right now. I usually raise them inside, but was going to try leaving them outside until Rita started heading our way, then I grabbed all the eggs up. I really should tag them this year. I did year before last, but forgot last year. Thanks for the reminder from "Jim". I will see if MW has some left first.
